Ask Poopreport: Now Or Later?

Posted 10.06.2009 by MSG (1152)
Lately I have noticed a tendency to feel the urge to poop, but by the time I get to the toilet, the urge has gone away. I can do one of two things:

1.) Push it out now.

2.) Wait till the urge returns with greater strength.

If I choose the first option, the movement is sometimes hard to pass and doesn't feel complete; this means I will have to go a second time later. If I choose the second option, of course the movement is later, but it seems more likely to be large, complete, and satisfying. My decision usually depends on when the first urge hits and what my schedule is. In many ways I prefer the second option, but sometimes the press of coming events dictates I chose the first.

How about it, fellow poopers? Do you ever have this pair of choices, and if so, what do you do?

I choose push it out now. I poop a lot and sometimes I take, what I call, recreational craps - those are times I take a dump if I'm going to be doing something nonstop for several hours and won't have an opportunity to shit. When you find yourself in the bathroom, there are no coincidences. You are there for a reason and I think you know why. Hate to be shakespearean about it but the question posed is to shit or not to shit. Or you could look at it from a more philosophical aspect - I shit, therefore I am.

I just go whenever I have the urge to. I don't see a point in purposely holding it in unless I'm in a situation where I can't get to a can.

Pops told me long ago when I was a LOT younger, "Never trust a fart and never pass up the opportunty to take a good dump in peace." As I grew older and my pipes matured I came to understand what he meant and now I follow that mantra.

I have the same thing happen to me alot. Usually, I take option two. It's easier.

ChiefThunderbutt (2779) -- 10.06.2009

Thanks to a very high fiber diet and lots of liquids I have very few false alarms. When I feel the need to go I very seldom take over 60 seconds to accomplish the deed.

I'm still getting used to once again having a choice! IBS-D didn't give me one for 5 hellish years...

Now, if poop doesn't just come out by itself when I'm at the toilet, it can wait. I quit straining to push out turds about 14 years ago when my dad died doing that.

Well i just pooped and I followed the first option since I'll be going out later and I won't have a chance to but generally I choose the second option only if I'm at home or if I'm comfortable shitting in public with my friends at the time

daphne (4404) -- 10.06.2009

Seeing as I am paranoid about pooping my pants, I take every chance I can get to unload. No living the risky life here. I've read too many poopreports of someone waiting to be left up the creek without a toilet.

The defining moment for me is when checking out of a hotel room when I am not heading directly to the airport. I'm leaving my toilet behind, with no idea when the next one will be needed and what will be available to me at that moment. Before checking out, I will squeeze out whatever I can. Standing up from that last session is basically the next round in a game of musical chairs. On the other hand, checking into that new room means having my very own toilet again, and it's the first thing I rush to check out. What a beautiful sight.

The proper order is kiss me, then go smell the other dog or cat's butt. I cannot stress this enough.

MSG (1152) -- 10.07.2009

Well, I just did Option 2 (significant number, that). Got up about 4:30, partly because I felt the urge; but I farted it away and decided to wait. The urge came again, unmistakably this time, just after 5, and I was able to extrude a nice long movement. My problem comes when that first urge hits just as I'm leaving for school; it might make me late to stop and poop then, but the half-hour drive might be a bit long if that urge is the real one. I do usually go if the urge hits as I'm ready to leave; sure wouldn't want anything drastic to happen on the road, as it nearly did a year or so ago. Thanks to all of you for your responses.

pnuttycorn (461) -- 10.07.2009

I'm afraid I'll get 'roids if I try to push something that's not ready.

poopsathome (25) -- 10.07.2009

Lucky MSG you shit in the morning I don't and I usually follow option 2 if get a slight urge at school.

ChiliKahKah (1007) -- 10.08.2009

If there is time, the place is warm and quiet and clean, you go.
