Ask Poopreport: Pain After Pooping.

I'm a seventeen year-old student, and every time I go to the bathroom, I am in so much pain afterwards that I can't do anything. I can't bend over, I feel weak, and usually I have to lay down and go to sleep, hoping when I wake up the pain will be gone.

Instead of feeling good about pooping, because I'm going to get rid of bodily waste, I fear the pain that comes with it. I have been to so many doctors over the past five years that I don't remember all of them. One even removed my appendix, but it didn't solve my problem.

I've noticed that now when I wake up in the morning my stomach still hurts from pooping the night before; the pain lasts all night and into the morning. What should I do? I have tried probiotics, fiber, and lactaid-free diets. Instead of feeling good after I go, I am in pain for hours, or sometimes, days. Please, if you have any suggestions to help me, let me know.

Did you read the entire post? This poor kid has been to a bunch of doctors, already.

I have no idea what to tell you, Ravioli. I hope someone else will have some good suggestions, because I'm drawing a blank.

Is the pain limited to your abdomen and do you move your bowels regularly (i.e. daily)?

A little more info might be helpful.

What exactly hurts? Is it your anus? your abdominal area? What kind of pain--an ache, a sharp pain? Is defecation itself painful, or does the pain come afterwards? Does it make a difference whether the stool is large or small, hard or soft?

Have these doctors checked for major illnesses such as cancer? That's a very scary word, and I hesitate to use it; and yet, if no one has checked for something like that, you may have it and not know it. I hope you find out soon.

To the idiot above me...what does anal sex have to do with it??My father had a problem similar to this and they couldn't find any thing until he got really sick..and they opened him up,it turned out that he had punctured his bowel.

I hate to say this, but it is just possible you're nuttier than a fruitcake (or turd) and you've been milking a psychosomatic illness for attention and/or sympathy.

We're all just grasping at straws cuz Rav didn't tell us where it hurts...but maybe it's hemorrhoids?

Maybe it's mechanical....you might benefit from changing positions from sitting, throne like - to squatting, nature like.

Or, maybe some walking, yoga, pilates might help your muscles help you....and drink more water!

had this problem myself: it was some kind of internal ligamnet strain. Time, anti-inflammatory meds. Anonymous coward is worse than a coward.

Ravioli -- simply changing your diet will fix this problem.

The first thing to change--and possibly the only change needed here--is to stop eating carbs with proteins.

This means if you are going to eat meat, don't have anything sweet with it, and also don't eat any type of bread, pasta, rice, or starchy vegetables (potatoes, corn, carrots, and peas) in the same meal.

Doing this one little thing differently can almost instantly resolve even the most heinous poop problems... but you have to be strict about adhering to this change or there will definitely be no improvement.

Try doing this for one week and see what it does for you. Please be sure to come back and let us know, too... if your problem is one of the few that don't respond to this change alone, I can suggest next steps to try.

When you say the word “poop,” your mouth makes the same motion your butthole does when pooping…
The same can be said for the phrase “explosive diarrhea.”

Oops... forgot beans -- all beans except green beans are starchy veggies too, so avoid eating them with meat as well.

Yeah, we can't really help you out unless you provide some more details. When you do poop, are your stools soft or are they difficult to pass and very hard? What is your diet like? Is the pain limited to your anal region or is it something you feel in your entire abdomen?

You mention going to a different doctors, but have you gone to a Gastroentrologist? I would assume you have, but it's worth asking. I would get tested for Crohns and IBS. Those can both cause pain during and after bowel movements.

Also, what is your diet like? Do you eat alot of junk food? If so, try eating more fiber. High fiber diets will help make passing stools easier. Eat more fruits, veggies and beans. There are many foods high in fiber. Another good change to your diet would be to eat foods with natural probiotics in them. These will help introduce friendly bacteria into your intestines that will make bowel movements easier. There are many foods with probiotics in them. There are some supplements that help with this, but I would suggest eating better foods. Cheaper and better for you, than ANY supplement of this nature.

More details would help, but I would imagine a simple change in your diet would be the best option.

The pain in question is impossible to understand without more information. How often do you have bowel movements? What color is your stool? What is the consistency of your fecal matter? What is the size of your stool? Do you have blood in your stool. These are questions that are vital to progressing towards a diagnosis. Saying your stomach hurts even until the morning after a nocturnal bowel movement is rather ambiguous. Personally, I think it could be Crohns Disease because of the constant abdominal pains but you never know it could just be gas...which sounds minor but gas pain can become quite extreme.

I agree with the others. Please ask your docs to get checked for Crohn's and Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS). Do some googling on these diseases as well and see if your symptoms match these at all.
Play around with your diet and see if that makes any changes to the length/severity of the pain. Could also be gas from you not eating the right things.

Get a colonoscopy done too if you haven't had one already. You don't want there to be any tumours or anything that could be causing the problem.

You've said you've been to many doctors so I am assuming you would've been checked for these diseases already and given a colonoscopy. If all these came back negative then it could very well be as simple as a dietary change. I wonder if there is a certain food maybe that you are not able to tolerate well.

For the past couple days it has really hurt to go to the bathroom and afterwards when its over it is still painful and then there is some relief but it still hurts. I think it is gone the next day but then it still kills me to go to the bathroom. I don't know what is going on. This has never happened to me before.

Hi, I'm a twenty-one year old woman and its hard to explain the pain I'm getting when I poo. It feels like my anus is numb and bruised when I'm relaxed, but feels like I have to fight to stop it from opening involuntarily, and in a weird way it feels like it's streched even though it hasn't. When I'm actually trying to poo I have to really force it out, and the pain is unbelievably horrible. I've got IBS which is making it worse because I constantly feel like I need to poo, but I can sit on the toilet for half an hour before anything happens. I've also been getting severe abdominal cramps when I need to go to the toilet making me feel sick and dizzy. I was just wondering if, before I went to the doctor to have another anal exam, is there anything that I could do to possibly avoid a doctors visit?
Any advice welcome
Thanku
In pain girl

It's too late for you anonymous, the punctuation center of your brain seems to have already been destroyed.

How long a minute is depends on what side of the bathroom door you're on!
