If you have cirrhosis, dark urine can be one of the symptoms. It is also a symptom of hepatitis.

Bilirubin makes your urine dark in this case, and oil in the urine might suggest that your liver and kidneys aren't working well at all.

From what I've been told by my best friend, this is especially true when cirrhosis is due to alcoholism. Mac, you really need to get to a doctor and have a total workup done on your urine and blood. I'm genuinely worried you might have cirrhosis.

About 10 years ago my appendix burst. I was mis-diagnosed and sent home. About 4 days later I was close to death. The drugs I was given for pain and nausea gave me a false sense that I was ok, when in fact I wasn't. What tipped me off that all was not well was when I felt well enough to pee while standing. My urine was the color of root beer, and when I saw that I immediately went to the emergency room, which is what I think you should do. Get back to us.

When I was a child, hepatitus went through my family. We all went to the hospital to get tested. My Father, brother, and I went to the bathroom with specimen bottles to fill with urine. All of us had hepatitus, but my Father's urine was as you described and he damn near died. If this is a joke; not funny. You say that the dark urine occurs only if you stop drinking. Well, don't stop drinking. (I give this advice only because it doesn't seem like dying soon is really your biggest concern.)

Dark urine is also indicative of dehydration which goes along with heavy alcohol slurping. Those freaks in AA (which now include me) aren't all that bad if you can find a good group. You might wanna look into it. Shit-wise, stringy watery blasts were the norm.

I'm a doctor and I recommend that you drink more. Also, start chain smoking and living on coffee and Red Bull. You'll feel better.

Uglymac, why are you asking us if you are going to die when you know very well that you are? You abuse your body over and over for years and years. Then only after death has begun, you ask if you are going to die? Take your pee to get tested. The test will reveal that you might only have a UTI. Not life threatening unless it goes untreated and you get septic. It will show if you have bilirubin in it and if so on to more tests for liver damage. Are you yellow are your eyes yellow? Stop drinking. You are killing yourself. You are allergic to alcohol therefore you shouldn't be drinking it.
