Dont know about the US..But in China its normal to take your kid to a public trash can and let him/her do their business in it.

I don't think it's a good idea at all. The child might grow up thinking it's acceptable to eliminate in public in front of everyone?
I think it teaches the baby bad social etiquette.

Well, no one is going to lock you up if your baby has an accident, but it's a serious breach of social etiquette to let that happen because your baby no longer wears diapers. If your kid is unable to control its urges and know when it has to go potty and wait for a few minutes until you find one, your child is not toilet-trained and should continue to wear diapers, as least in public.

I once saw a mom let her (5-7 year old?) boy pee in the grass by the apartments where I used to live. I was only like 14 but I went chewed her out for it. Apparently it's acceptable where she's from. Ugh.

Over here in the UK it`s OK if it`s an emergency and the kid is very small. In China the kids (up to 6 or 7 in some cases) have pants that have a slit for the crotch and they go anytime, anywhere.

Otherwise it just depends on how much of a piece of redneck trash you are.

I don't know about regulations in the US, but I have heard about natural potty training and it seems to be gaining some traction in the US. This site might help.

It looks like you can still use the diaper-free method without having a consta-nekkid child, which would likely keep you in line with any rules/guidelines do exist in this country.

Please do try not to let your baby "eliminate" anything in public places, though - it's unsanitary and you will get a lot of grief from innocent by-standers.

When I was in China a couple years ago visiting my dad, we saw a Chinese family walking in a park in the evening. They had a son, probably four or five, who really had to pee. His parents told him to pee in the bushes; he saw us and got really embrassed, although he did end up peeing. We didn't speak Chinese, and the parents didn't speak English, but we all had a little chuckle over it, because we could totally hear the boy complaining to his mom, probably saying "But those people can see me!"

Diaper free?.........Why?.....Diapers help with sanitation. Don't let your child pinch loaves and piss everywhere at will!! If you do you should follow the laws that are prescribed for dog owners. Carry a plastic bag, physically scoop up the poop, place the poop in the bag and tuck it in your pocket. In addition, since human poop can carry many communicable diseases, carry a big jug of disinfectant and wipe the surface you just lifted the poop from. Wouldn't diapers be a hell of a lot simpler than that?

If you are worried about the negative impact that disposable diapers have on landfills then by all means use cloth diapers.
You haven't lived until you've plunged your hands down into the icy waters of the commode to scrub the shit out of a diaper to get it in good enough shape to place in the old washer........been there.......done that...........sheesh, we're supposed to be rednecks here in Tennessee.

Cory, are you using the "elimination communication" technique? We have a forum long time member who had written in a couple months ago who is doing this with her kid. Maybe I can find her to see if she knows.

However you chose to train the baby, I would use a diaper in social and public situations out of courtesy of others.

diaper free is just wrong... well unless your a nudist i suppose but who wants to see any thing let alone a baby defecate in plain sight.

Well, I have emailed a few elimination communication websites asking them to contact us regarding the legalities of public expectoration and/or an infant being nude in the genital region. Hopefully someone will get back to us with this information.

If your child is too young to use a toilet, and not at the mental state to pull their pants down and use the toilet, blah you get the idea, there is no reason not to use a diaper. If I don't want to see you peeing in the open, I don't want to see your child doing that either. As far as bushes and stuff go, if you are near a public restroom, then use it. God has blessed the USA with all this convienence, now use it. It is unsanitary to do that outside since you have no way to wash you hands, and I assume you are not redneck enough to not have the child wipe or you wipe your baby since this earth creature seems to be so young.

If you're suggesting that the babies just pee on themselves or make a mess, you're wrong. I've seen these websites; babies as young as four months of age communicate to their mothers that they're feeling the need to pee, and by God, they do just that, pee in the toilet. It's usually a form of communication in the way of the baby either making a noise or moving their bodies in a way the mother understands, and she reciprocates by holding the baby either on the toilet or with its back to her stomach and the legs up over toilet and gives her own form of communication back to the child that it's OK to let their bowels go. The kid learns to wait a bit by the time they're five or six months of age. In fact, it's pretty amazing.

However, I totally agree with you in not wanting to see it in public. Many women decided to use diapers on public; and if they cannot find facilities fast enough, tell the baby to go anyway, and then change their diaper as soon as they can.

I'm still waiting for a response from some of these websites. It would be weird, would it not, if none of them actually knew the laws? I'm hoping they do.

This thread makes me think of the problem experienced by one of my friends a few years ago. She was (still is) a very caring and patient person whose job was to take retarded adults on outings to brighten their institutionalized lives a bit.

One of her charges was a thirty something year old adult whose mental development was that of a three year old. When he had to pee he would pull his pants down and let it fly. The only problem was he had a schlong like John Holmes or Long Dong Silver. I think he might even have beat out CEP, She was never called to task for his behavior but said she was always ready.
