A look at the privies of England

Sitting Wiper sent this in:

I'm not advertising for this company, but Countryside Books. a British publisher with different series on local history, has a series on Privies for different English counties:

Why do they all have the same cover? I wonder if they're all the same book, but with "xxxxxshire" replaced with "yyyyyyshire."

Dave. The series on the privies of England I can assure you are all very different, and written by local historians who are experts in the different counties. I have 3 of the books, and all of them, and others which I have looked at, are very authentic, with many photographs and reminiscences of those who used them.

They are a good contribution to English social history.

What do they talk about? And why do they all have the same cover?

I've no idea why they all have the same cover. It may be policy because they are all part of a series. This issue would not be noticed in bookshops for particular counties, because the only one on display would be the relevant one.

They include children's experiences of having to go down the garden at different times of the day and night, how children sometimes played pranks on each other and on grown ups, histories of sanitation. It's all part of social history, of which toilets are an integral part.
