Six Inches is Deep Enough

Posted 07.03.2002 by Dakota
For those of you folks, who like me, are hiking in the great outdoors over the holiday weekend, you've got to take great care how to take a shit if there are no restroom facilities available. It's recommended that you take a trowel with you and dig a hole 6-8" deep and then squat over it. Each hole should be used only once. When you have completed dumping to your satisfaction you should mix your turds up with dirt to hasten decomposition and then the hole should be filled in. Toilet paper should not be buried in the hole, but should be taken back with you for later disposal because it takes so long to decompose. So be creative and enjoy, but don't harm the environment! The URL also gives detailed instructions for taking a piss, but they don't remind you that you first have to take your dick out of your pants!

I've heard of the six inch rule. But, why bury your poop in the first place? The rain will disolve both the TP and the deposit.

I don't bury my excrement when I am out in the woods for this reason.
