Don't mess with a person's toilet

Posted 01.06.2005 by Dave
That's what they're learning in Virginia, after the Chesapeake Bay Foundation proposed a $1-per-week sewer system tax.

"That’s stupid," said Jon Ryan of Wise County. "It’s just stupid."

"Outrageous doesn’t even come close to an adjective I’d use," said Dickenson County resident Nada Hall.

Delegate Bud Phillips, D-Sandy Ridge, called the proposal the "craziest idea I’ve ever heard."

"It defies common logic," he said.

Even the newspaper itself, supposedly a bastion of unbiased reporting, got in on the act with this graphic:

The NERVE of the Chesapeake Bay Foundation. Imagine asking someone to pay for a service they use. The gall!

My comment is this: My lame ass brother in law hasn't paid his sewer bill in over four years, and it's now almost 700 dollars in the arrears. He still can flush the toilet.

I wish there was justice in this world.

ok, there's going to be people shitting EVERYWHERE to avoid using a public toilet, and i don't blame them, that's just inhumane to put a tax on toilets.
i think what really made this ridiculous aside from the tax itself, was the fact that even if you own a home you'd get taxed a dollar a week just to use YOUR OWN TOILET!!
these jackasses will come up with anything and i mean ANYTHING to make a buck...imagine , paying tax to take a shit...that's a shame

The Denver Water Department does charge us for the sewer. And I believe it is based on the amount of water you use, which is metered.
This is completely fair and equitable. Color me crazy, but the poo doesn't disappear by magic. It takes pipes that must be built and maintained, and sewage treatment plants that must be built, staffed, and they use a bunch of chemicals. Each of these things cost money! It is my poo, so I should pay whatever the charge is to turn it back into water and sludge from whence it came. The alternative would be disease carrying poo all over the place and in our drinking water. There is a reason why modern countries don't have cholera outbreaks and terrible diseases from water contamination. It is the hard working engineers and sewage department workers who figure out how to pick up where your brown-eyed starfish left off, that keeps modern society on the rails. The population density and productivity of our civilization depends on this unseen (and largely unappreciated) sewage and water system. So unless you want to turn back the clock 100 years, cough up the cash and sit on your throne, secure that your dookie will not lead to anarchy.

Thank you...PooperTrooper now steps down from his soapbox.

Acyually, what I was wondering is if this was a rate hike, another sewer fee added to to the currunt fee, which in turn has a ton of extra fees in it.

If that was the case, then I would see reason to contest the fee.

That, and if the proceeds of the fee didn't actually go to the sewer works, it instead was going to some crooked politician.

This is the most ridiculous thing that I have ever heard. Most cities charge a certain fee for water and sewer usage. To add a one dollar a week tax is insane and assinine.

This is another case of how greedy, civilization is becoming.

They'd never pass this tax. Every politician in the world would pay through the nose whenever he tried to speak.
