Central Vermont Public Service is milking electricity out of 1,500 cows at Blue Spruce Farm in Bridport, Vermont. The utility is
using the methane gas from the dairy herd to turn

turbines supplying power to about 1,000 customers.
"This is the first time anywhere in the country that a farm-based generation has been offered to customers as a renewable choice," said Steve Costello of the utility corporation.
PoopReport congratulates the poop-powered customers, who normally pay 12 cents per kilowatt hour, for agreeing to pay an additional 4 cents per kilowatt-hour to support the farm.
Blue Spruce dairyman, Earl Audet is delighted with the financial arrangement. "The girls are now officially producing two streams of income, a milk check and a power check," said Audet, who owns the farm with his brothers.
