Public toilets have taken a revolutionary step forward with the launch of a
pop-up urinal in England. Westminster City Council in London hopes that the hi-tech self-cleaning toilets, which rise from the sidewalk, will help deter late night drinkers from pissing in the streets. The West End of London is plagued by men using walls and doorways as toilets. The problem is especially bad behind the National Gallery in Trafalgar Square. "There's a slob culture in the capital," said Judith Warner, the Council's cabinet member for street environment. She added: "There's no excuse, if you're drinking in a pub or club, you should use the toilet at the premises before you leave. We need to stop exposing ourselves in the streets and change our behavior." The new urinal, which is the first of many, cost about $30,000 and stands two-meters tall. When closed it leaves a meter-wide manhole style cover that blends with the sidewalk. It will be open every night between 6.00 P.M. and 6.00 A.M. and can accommodate three dudes at one time! Apparently, no allowance has been made for women needing to pee.
