East Lothian Council is celebrating after scooping the annual Loo of the Year award. It carried off the prestigious award for its public restrooms at Tranent, one of seven facilities in the region that were awarded five stars by the judges. It is only the second time in the competition's fifteen-year history that a local authority has won the overall UK title. Oliver Weisflog, managing director of Cannon-Hygiene that sponsors the awards, said: "The judges have inspected some truly first-class facilities this year and we are delighted to see so many of them getting the praise they deserve for their hard work."
