"They are twins -- modern wastewater treatment plants that were two of the nation's first sludge disposal facilities. Both were activated in 1927. Sugar Creek Wastewater Treatment Facility likely came online in November; records show the Irwin Creek plant treated its first wastewater Dec. 19."

I was thinking the other day about why certain disease, such as cholera and typhoid fever, have virtually disappeared from this country. As I pondered, I began to realize that both these diseases can be spread by poop. Before the 1920s they were more frequent and after that point they began to disappear. I think we see a corolation here. Sewage treatment plants= no shit on the streets= no cholera and typhoid!

There's a great book called "An Imperfect Lens" that's all about the last big outbreak of cholera in Alexandria, and some scientist who were sent there by Louis Pasteur to try to isolate the bug.

Since sewage plants have appeared, the average life expectancy in this country has increased by about 30 yrs.

But, I feel that we can do better with our treatment of sewage.
