The author of this article was a research subject. His assignment was to spend 22 hours in a small chamber at NASA-Ames research laboratory. In the chamber he was spun around at seven times the force of gravity--7 G. This meant that he 'weighed' 7 times his weight during this process. The recommended diet was low bulk--evidently the bowels move with greater ease in hyperdrive and a normal bulk diet would produce catastrophic effects. One the problem of#1 and #2 at 7G,he reports:
"I'm looking at a small, outhouse-style seat in the chamber with an 8-inch-wide hole in it, pondering
the dark matter of "voiding" in hypergravity. Should 22 hours turn out to be too long to go without going, I will drape a heavy-duty plastic bag over the seat and down into the hole, void into the bag, seal it, and spend the remainder of the run trying to ignore it. All this in full view of the video camera. I'm told that the medical team and anyone else in the control room will avert their eyes."
