Volunteer firefighters rescued a teenage inmate whose hand became trapped Saturday in a commode in his cell at the Pine Grove state youth prison along Fyock Road, east of Indiana, officials said today.
"The inmate
stuck his hand down inside a stainless steel toilet and we could not get his arm out," said Douglas Russell, the assistant superintendent at the prison.
"His arm swelled up and got stuck. Our medical staff tried to get it out first, then it became apparent we had to do an extrication and needed to call the outside fire company."
