The last thing Dallas Houia expected to face at work was an exploding toilet. Mr Houia, a Streetsmart contractor, went to clean the toilet block behind the Tararu Cultural Centre. He was hosing out the men's cubicle when the pipes behind the toilet block exploded and sent pieces of plastic and metal flying.


"I just got out of there and rang my boss," Mr Houia says.

Mr Houia, who was unhurt in the blast, and colleague Gzraeme Armstrong watched as what they describe as smoke and steam poured out of the building for about 30 minutes. "It smelt like almonds," says Mr Armstrong. "It had a real almondy smell to it."
