A Saugus woman is lucky to have her engagement ring on her finger Thursday.
Last week, Theresa Barbanti, accidentally sent the ring down the toilet and thought it was gone for good, but her son Phil would not give up the search, reported Newscenter 5's Pam Cross.
"Phil took the hopper off, but it was not here," said Theresa Barbanti.
She thought that was the end of it. But her son, who owns a local liquor store, hired a private drain company to try.
"They ran a wire and a TV camera down, but they didn't see anything," said Phil Barbanti.
Discouraged, he didn't give up. A desperate call to the city public works department connected the Barbantis with Tom DiNocco and Chris Rocco.
They are veterans of the water and sewer division, but in this case they are miracle workers. First they opened a manhole cover near the house but found nothing. But at the bottom of the street,
they flushed a line and could not believe what they found -- Barbanti's ring.
