My girlfriend used one of the few existing coin-op restrooms in midtown recently. She wasn't repulsed... so that bodes well.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg and City Council leaders are planning to do just that as they near a deal to
bring as many as 20 pay toilets to Manhattan.
Early next year, the city will pick a company to build several of the self-cleaning, pay-as-you-go unisex commodes. Each will cost about $200,000 and pedestrians will have to pay "a nominal fee" not more than a dollar, according to Deputy Mayor Dan Doctoroff. More toilets could be added later.
The toilets are part of the city's effort to spruce up the streets -- and generate as much as $20 million a year from advertising on so-called street furniture, which includes bus shelters, garbage cans, newsstands and phone booths.
With only a smattering of public restrooms and a mere three coin-operated commodes in midtown, the city has long been inhospitable for relief-seeking pedestrians.
