FYI, according to http://www.treecycle.com/cattissue.html , Green Forest is not environmentally friendly at all! Scandal!

it has a picture of Ironeyes Cody on the lable and that's good enough for me.

DAVE IS RIGHT!! DON'T BUY THIS PRODUCT!! It contains only 10% "post consumer waste." That means that only 10% of this TP is recycled material. 90% OF THIS "RECYCLED" PAPER IS MADE FROM HARVESTED TREES. Georgia-Pacific has a terrible environmental record, including polluting rivers, city water supplies, and releasing cancer-causing toxins into the air and water. WATCH OUT! They also go by the names "Fort Howard" and "Fort James." I reccommend boycotting all of this corporation's products due to the blatant lack of concern they have shown for human life, and all life. Other products that they produce that you shouldn't buy:
-Angel Soft
-Brawny
-Dixie
-Mardi Gras
-MD
-Quilted Northern
-So-Dri
-Soft 'n Gentle
-Sparkle
-Vanity Fair
-Zee
See the official website for the full list of other products http://www.gp.com.

I've never used any of these products, including Green Forest. Not because of their environmental policy but because they suck major anus. Brawny doesn't absorb any wetness, it just pushes it in front of the paper towel.

NEWS FLASH: Green Forest has been bought out and is a much greener brand as of 2006. Georgia Pacific sold it to a small, environmentally-responsible company called Planet. Now it is 100% recycled; 40%post-consumer waste; and is whitened w/o chlorine. Plus the TP is the softest of the recycled brands that I've used! Good price, too. I have seen some old GP packages still around, so look for the new ones.

I like this tp. Compared to other recycled brands, its very soft. We're very pleased with it, except for the plastic wrap.

Explain your issue with Green Forest.... they are both good (not verified) -- 04.27.2008

Isn't that a 7th Generations' site? It's good to have others trying to make a company better, but why diss a good thing in general? Explain WHY Green Forest isn't a great toilet paper. 100% recycled, no chlorine and nice. It's cheaper than 7th Generation (which I love as a company, too), and it just as soft and good.

It's a shame that the first thing people see about this product is completely outdated! But it prompted me to do some research, because I prefer the softness of this tissue to Seventh Generation. Here's the full history:
The Green Forest brand of environmentally friendly, recycled content household paper products was started in 1990 by Fort Howard, a medium-sized paper company based in Wisconsin. Green Forest immediately became very successful, particularly in the Midwest, the West Coast and the Northeast. The combination of environmental friendliness, excellent product quality and economical prices was popular from the outset.

In 1997, Fort Howard merged with another paper company, James River. Three short years later, the newly merged Fort James company was purchased by Georgia-Pacific, one of the largest paper companies in the world. Amidst all the corporate changes, Green Forest became an "orphan brand". Within the Georgia-Pacific behemoth, Green Forest garnered little attention as a relatively small brand, its environmental characteristics did not keep pace with advancing "green" standards, and sales and distribution slipped to a point where the brand was in danger of disappearing entirely from the marketplace.

In 2003, Planet Inc. saw an opportunity to rescue Green Forest. The plan was to rebuild Green Forest into a truly environmentally friendly green brand while continuing to offer products at an excellent value to consumers. After two years of researching, negotiating and looking for financing, Planet Inc. officially acquired Green Forest on April 1, 2005.
I hope that helps others to make a decision.
