Paige asks:
A couple of nights ago at about three in the morning, I went #2 and realized that my feces had turned blue! I thought I was just tired since it was three in the morning, so I went to bed thinking nothing of it. But then, the next day, it happened again... and again the next day. I have eaten nothing that was blue and can't think of what it could be. The ONLY thing I can think of is that it's maybe a vitamin deficiency, because a couple of months ago I became extremely low on vitamins and my tongue turned black! Help help help!
Dear Paige,
Let me see if I have this right:
Your poop has turned blue, and your tongue has turned black.
The blue poop I can probably blame on the ingestion of some sort of food coloring (green or purple dyes sometimes found in exotic alcoholic drinks are notorious for this), but the black tongue (if it persisted beyond maybe ten minutes) merits a visit to a DOCTOR.
I can't think of too many vitamin deficiencies or diseases prevalent in developed countries that will turn your tongue black, so I would be fairly skeptical that a simple vitamin deficiency really had anything to do with it. Most of us get enough vitamins from pizza and beer to ward off that kind of thing.
If either condition persists, for God's sake go to a doctor.
Please be advised that I am only a Poonurse. I am NOT a medical doctor. Any advice I give should be taken moderate skepticism. Please consult a REAL medical doctor if you feel you have a serious medical condition.
