hemmorhoids for life

Posted 03.18.2008 by Snapper (170)
Dear Snapper,

My husband grew up in Guatemala. He has had hemorrhoids since he was about nine years old. He has had continuous bleeding (heavy -- a toiletful every time!) and continuous pain. He has taken fiber, used Gycolax, and recently had the rubber band thing done. Still bleeding!!! It always feels better when he's sitting, and it bothers him more when standing. When he’s going to the bathroom, there’s a lot of bleeding, and his anus prolapses every time. He has to sit for a minute to get it to go back in, or literally push it back in with his fingers!!!

What is your opinion? He's had this problem all his life and is fed up with it! Please help!

Dear H4L

This sounds like a bloody, shitty mess!

This will just get worse if not. Your hubby might need surgery to repair this. A person's rectum can prolapse a long way, potentially creating a pool of coagulated blood, which can cause problems such as clot formation. You don't wanna clot going through your body! Plus, the rectum has pretty sensitive lining. If it's bleeding already and he's digging around with his pokey fingers in there, there's a slight possibility he could puncture his bowel.

Tell your hubby to see a doctor already. Cripes!

Good luck, Snapper

Snapper is a general medical-surgical Registered Nurse. And a Canadian one at that. She is not a doctor. She has never claimed to be one. She doesn't plan on ever being one. But, dang! She sure is smart, wonderful, and hot. All concerns should be followed up by your doctor.

Many years ago an uncle of mine had a prolapsed anus and hemorrhoids and had to have surgery. The healing period was a few weeks, and he was uncomfortable sitting during that process. I was not privy to his b.m. experiences, but I imagine they were a challenge. After the surgery healed, though, he was fine. My guess is that medicine has progressed since c. 1970, and treatments may be less painful to start with and quicker to heal nowadays. I agree with Snapper: Surgery is likely the best option. Losing blood on a constant basis like that can't be good, and life surely holds better experiences. See a good proctologist.

I agree with the suggestion of surgery, sounds like he's way past the point where a glass of red wine a day will tame the rhoids.

shitwit, to answer your question about things sometimes all going into italics, it's because every once in awhile, the person who uses the html command for italics forgets to put the end command in their post, or that it's put in incorrectly. Html will continue a command until it reads the end of it, which in this case is < / e m >. I had to put spaces in between the characters because otherwise the computer sees it as a command and doesn't publish it.

Sometimes, we'll see an entire thread slanted because of this, and someone has to go into the comments archive to find the "offending comment".
