Jen asks:

I went to the bathroom and there was blood on the tissue and my stool is a lot lighter in color than normal. It's like a really light tan. HELP!!!!!

Dear Jen,

Thanks for the question.

Blood on the toilet paper after wiping can be from something as innocent as a mild anal irritation, to complex processes like colitis or even (rarely) colon malignancy.

Be sure you are not constipated; get plenty of fiber in, via green, leafy veggies, complex carbs and Metamucil, and drink at LEAST 8-10 LARGE glasses of water a day. If you are still having problems, please see your doctor to get the situation checked out.

good luck, and hope this helps you.

Please be advised that I am only a Poonurse. I am NOT a medical doctor. Any advice I give should be taken moderate skepticism. Please consult a REAL medical doctor if you feel you have a serious medical condition.

Bleeding from the back passage is something that you should always see your doctor about, even if you are convinced it is piles or an anal fissure. The reason you need to be checked is that bleeding from the back passage can be a symptom of bowel (colon or rectum) cancer. If you don

Dear Poonurse,

I have crohns disease therefore have a lot of Pooing issues...Whenever I visit the doctor they ask me if there is blood or slime in my stool which is the standard question...Truth is I never notice any blood but the slime thing occasionally... It is more like jelly actually & is quite frightening...
What is it? Is it the lining of your bowel or a nasty result of whatever you have eaten...Is it a bad sign?

Regards,
Worried

I wonder if a dog can get Crohn's disease. My 17-year-old basset mix has been having this problem for a while, minus the blood.

Light tan or whitish colored stool can sometimes indicate a biliary obstruction. This can be caused by gallstones, a mass in the liver or gallbladder or other liver or gallbladder disease. Liver function tests and abdominal ultrasound can be performed to detect these conditions. Please see your doctor.

Hi - I ran across your site while doing some research on a gastrointestinal problem I've been having for about 2.5 months. It started with abdominal pain (sharp pain in upper left area and severe cramping) immediately almost every time I ate, and frequent bloating, flatulence and belching. That was a little disturbing because I couldn't sit down to a meal without worrying if I was going to be in pain as soon as I took the first 5 bites or so, and the belching/flatulence/bloating was annoying. I blew it off as just a little stomach upset of some sort. But within a couple or three days of the pain onset, I had a stool that was mixed (well-formed and diarrhea-like with mucous) with some strangely bright orange looking liquid...it looked like I had eaten orange food dye but hadn't eaten anything even remotely that color for quite some time (or at all.) That poop was followed by more cramping and mucousy diarrhea off and on for a couple of weeks. During those two weeks, I had a couple of episodes of rectal bleeding and wrote it off to hemorrhoids, even though it was a bit more bleeding than I've had in the past with hemorrhoids (it was dripping into the bowl vs. just being on the tissue.) Then the cramping pretty much stopped, although I continued to have twinges of the pain in the left upper abdomen on occasion when I ate. I felt pretty good for a couple of weeks and then it started again...only this time, it was accompanied by almost daily nausea and frequent vomiting (no blood), pain across my entire upper abdomen, and constipation with hard stools streaked with maroon (I assume blood base on what I've read) and still more bright red blood around the formed poop and several big clots. The bleeding always went away after I finished pooping so I didn't have to worry about soiling my pants. But when the nausea/vomiting started and I couldn't keep anything down for 3 days, I finally went to my doctor who has referred me to a gastroenterologist. I'll be seeing the new doc and having tests done in the next week or so but, I'm wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience and, if so, what the heck was it? I appreciate any thoughts or insights you might have. I like to go to the doctor well-informed of the various possibilities so I'll know what questions to ask and what information I should remember to provide. I've been known to get to the doctor and forget some of the most important details. Anybody got any ideas, or questions I should be asking myself or the doc? Thanks in advance for your help.

Yep another coward! hehe I have and still experiencing all the symptons what u lot are going through, although not the bleeding! I have suffered with haemrroids now for a good 4 years and over, I am in my late 30's now. Couple of years ago i had an perinanal abscess in my rectum which was very very painful, cudnt sit down or nothing, had it surgically drained and god was I in pain for weeks after that, having to have it dressed everyday for 2 weeks. But now the last few weeks yes, I have been experiencing constipation on the toilet, then more or less straight away a jelly music, I would describe it, that had a really bad smell to it, and then experience great pain afterwards and yeh I had abdominable pain too, come too think of it, quite frequently too! I had this jelly muisc for months on and off, but just put it down to a bad diet? But up until few days ago I am experiencing painful haemrroids, well thats what i think it is, cant sit down, or ly on my side, pain killers arnt working, but now I am thinking is it another abscess? God hope not! Just been browsing internet, then now I thinking is it cancer? or just Irritable Bowels? been to see Doctor today, and he just gave me some ointment to insert and he wants me to give him a sample of my stoolss and that jelly form, but I havent had one since the pain and that?

hiya, tis the coward again, the one that put the report in on the 10.09.06? I was worrying wandering if i had an abcess? Well I have been to doctors three times this week cus the pain has been so bad I have cried badly, havent been able to sit, ly down u name it, Doctors have confirmed that is just pressure that has cause my bottom to inflame and become sore and red and itchy and stinging, pressure of being badly badly constipated, and he has given me lactulose, which my god it has helped me go, and is relieving the pressure slightly, also he has given me an anitbiotic cream which is helping too.

Hi,

I figured I post this and see if some can answer my question. I have had poo issues in the past and had various test (barun enema, intestine x-rays, etc). Nothing ever comes up. It began with constipation, but not that I take saily fiber pills I am doing better. My questions is that about poo slime and dark almost bloodish spots in my stool. I'm not bleeding when i wipe; it just looks like it's marbeled into my poo. I am wondering what i should do. Should I re-visit the doctors? Should I stop taking fiber? Should I take a colon cleanser? If so can you recommend one that won't keep me at home for 24-48hrs lumped over my toilet?

In the past few days, I have experienced lower back pain like in or near my kidneys. I have had bowel movements with no pain or problems. But what has freaked me out today is I had a bowel movement and it was a very light brown and hard. Am I constipated and need more fiber or should I have some tests done?

I recently have increased my protein intake and have added creatine to my diet since I am a powerlifter. I have not experienced any abdominal pain nor any constipation but have noticed that my poop has a whitish color and is light colored. I am concerned because it is usually darker colored. Could ir maybe be caused by the extra protein? No symptoms of gall bladder stones or liver problems.

Over the past month or so I've been frequently having blood in my poop. It is usually pretty well mixed in except on one occasion where it wasn't in the poop at all a little bit it was in the toilet water alone. But usually it's just a small dot or spot in the poop (and this may sound odd but its usually poop that I sometime feel a little more on the constipated side with, and its in larger poops)but today it was a long red streak. It's barely visible on the toilet paper, but I'm worried because I'm only 14 and this has been happening about 3 out of every 4 times i poop for about the past month. I have no other symptoms like a stomach ache. Please tell me what i should do!!! BTW im a guy if that makes a difference.

Time for me to join the list of cowards. Anonymous Coward (not verified) -- 08.20.2006, i have all the symptoms that you experience, but i think my bleeding is getting worse,oo!. I have been prescribed Prednisole (a type of anti-inflammitory steroid) to treat somethong called Crohns disease. My problem is that I am only 17!!! and it is a very embarassing area to talk about or go to the doctor about. I onlt went cos i began to loose a lot of weight.

So my advice is go to your doctor!! I only hope this will all blow over and the medication will work.

I need help, and I hate going to the Doc. I'm a 30 year old woman, healthy, nothing EVER wrong with me, thank GOD...but 4 days ago, I started getting dizzy and it continues all thru the day. Lastnight, I pooped (and I only go about once every 2-3 days...and that is normal for me)...well, as I'm finished, I notice blood on the paper, and when I turn around, I'm stunned...BLOOD all in the toilet and upon a closer look (YUCKY) it is all in my stools as well. I've looked up all kinds of things that could be wrong...but nothing seems to make sense. Do you think that the link of loss of blood and my dizziness are together. I've been dieting and losing weight for about a month and a half, but aside from that, nothing new with me. Thanks for any advice you can give. I'm just spinning writing this...and not too mention, my tail hurts!

I have bouts of massive blood & clots. All tests show normal bowel, although was diag w/colitis in 1999. Since, I've had ALMOST every GI test known to man. I have also been diag w/IBS-D, GERD, hemorrhoids, fissure (which healed and is NOT the cause of blood). Chronically ill, and often feel like poop. My current GI doc says it's just rhoids & IBS. I feel it's something else. My rhoids do NOT hurt, and if they were bleeding, wouldn't my panties be bloodied? I am talking big time blood here, not just a streak or two on the toilet paper. So I HAVE gone to the Doctor, MANY times, and yet I STILL bleed. Those of you that said "Go to the Dr already yet!", What advice can you give ME? I will add that there is NO other cause of the bleeding, such as anal trauma, etc... It's an outtie hole only, not an innie! No way, no how! Small bowel cancer runs in my family, but it's very hard to diag & Doc says "No way do you have that!" Well how the poop does he know if he's not done ALL the tests possible?

If people like Daphne & Gottagogirl have a problem with what people are talking about on this sight, leave, what r u doin here anyway. These r seriuos Queastions, this is a A,B conversation C yr way out of it. If u dont have a poop problem u dont need to be here, PLEASE. Have respect. Like me Im here because Im trying to look up information about my son,and it brought me here. Information helps people out, puts them at ease or helps them realizing they should go to the doctor. U guys r not cowards, yr cautious.Sometimes its not serious, sometimes it is. My son is 21 mths old and the other day he pooped brown hard poop with grass colorthick slime all over it. Tonight it was hard and had different colored poop pushed together, it felt and looked like different colored playdough, it was light brown, dark brown, like a weird looking green, like a greenish gray, withblood mixed in the poop, look like it anyway, if it isn't u could of fooled me. I got an appt. for him tomorrow Because its freeking me out. I just lost my mom from peancreadic cancer. Im not that strong right now, But im trying to be for him, and I feel that his symptoms is bad. But I pray not. Whats weird is my mom waited to long and it was to late. Me im just like u guys just ask people about it, see if they no what the problem is, always done that, now that I lost my mom to cancer, Im doin things different now. If u guys can get checked out, try not to wait to long. I wish my mom didnt. Goodluck guys, God bless you.

for good health probiotics are always a good idea i've found. I've always had IBS. Mine is gone after taking ground flax seed and acidophilius every day. An herbal combination from india called Triphala is great too or eating all bran crackers. by all means go to the doctor. Just know that they know very little about nutrition and nutrition is what will help you. it helped me, when no one else would. Especially if you've been on antibiotics in the recent past. You can restore your flora with some work. Still go to the doctor. - Just a person who has found her own answer and my conscience wouldn't let me log off

It's probably a hemorrhoid. Get him a doctor's appointment, though, to be sure it's not something serious.

Well looks like we all have our weird issues. Everytime I go poop it looks like at the beginning it is having some clear white fuzzy slime build up on the turd, sometimes stringed around it. I been having this for about 2 years now. I talked to 2 different doctors about it and one did a test to see if there was blood in my stool and was negative. She also went in with a glove to feel around and she said it felt normal. Both doctors told me it was nothing to worry about. I even mentioned that sometimes I have some clear blood in the white slimey stuff.
Now lately the blood seems to become a bit more frequent. I also have a weird numb pain at times in my tummy and occasionally when I go to the bathroom I pass gass and when I wipe it looks like there is puss with a little bit of blood on the paper and it smells reallly foul. Should I just go to the doctor and demand more tests? I just get sick of hearing them say it is probably nothing because I am too young for colon cancer ( I am 37 female and healthy... I think?)
What should I tell my doctor so that I wont get blown off again??

Worried pooper. Thanks for the visual. Suddenly, my stomach wants to do backflips.

My advice, get a second opinion. It appears, that doctor doesn't know his ass from a hole in the ground.

A colon cleanse may be helpful. However, I can't believe that this doctor didn't check for other problems, or have a stool culture done.

Hi,

I've occasionally have stomach problems from something a doctor called a "spastic colon" for about 10 years (I'm 26), so alternating between occasional diarrhea/loose stools and mild constipation is not unusual for me.

One day last week I had stomach cramping and diarrhea, and it was definitely more painful, frequent, and serious than usual. I wrote it off to a stomach bug or food not agreeing with me.

Today I noticed some bright orangish-red blood on the toilet paper. This has also happened once or twice pretty recently, but I can't recall exactly when. My stool has also been a lighter color (tan?) most of the time recently, but I can't recall exactly how long it's been like that.

Due to mild constipation and slight discomfort during bowel movements, it's possible that the blood was the result of a hemorrhoid or something like that.

The thing that worries me is that I'm taking 250 mg naproxen twice a day. (I have also experienced nausea, but I assumed it was because of the pain that I'm taking the naproxen for.)

I'm waiting for my doctor to give me a call back, but I have a hunch that she'll say it's probably just a hemorrhoid. I don't know if I should be concerned or not.

Do these symptoms sound like they could be due to a gastrointestinal problem, or are they likely just from a hemorrhoid or something of the like?

Thanks.

I usually have constipation problems, not to where i cant go, but just a little difficult. I drink about 8-10 glasses of water daily and workout 3-4 days a week. I don't eat very many veggies or fruits. My problem is that about 1 week ago i started having little chunks of blood on my toiler paper after by bowel movement. I want to do something before going to dr. because I don't want a colonoscopy. Fk that, i am a xray tech, i know how careless they are with you when your under and talk about you.

ive notice a few spots on tissue before and put it down to hemmoroides. The A+E examined me with their finger and gave me two white tablets and said that its proberly hemorides and told me to get checked out with a colonoscopy...ive not lost weight stools are not thin ..dont feel sick but am very worried as i have a phobia about surgery or being knocked out.(due to previous surgery when small)
ive never so far seen blood in the toilet bowl either..just on the outside of the stool occasionally and its not a lot just a streak of bright red.

still dont have the confidence to get it checked out by a specialist.

here's my problem:
It's been about 3 months.
For about a month I was constipated and took a laxative and everything was OK. During the constipation, there was blood spots on TP, nothing big, just little, little spots.

Now things are going like this for the past 2 months:
I would poop normal in the morning, except it is very skinny, orange poop. Then the rest of the day, poop, but it's tiny, skinny, orange turds. Sometimes it comes out solid, but with diarrhea texture and some anal leakage after I poop. Now in the last week, the blood spots have reappeared on the TP.

There is NO blood in the stool or on the poop. I have tried hemroid cremes, changing my diet, among other things.

Does anyone know what this is? Do I need to see a doctor?

I think the King snake goes red, black, yellow, and the Coral snake is yellow, red, black. Those Coral snakes despise hemmoroid cream, and usually come out kicking and biting. If it's a Coral snake AC, you've already gotten it pissed and it will be best to try to lure it out with a small feeder mouse.

We learned a little mnemonic in the Boy Scouts to help with this. It went "red and yellow kill a fellow; red and black, friendly Jack." Or hmm, was it "red and black, you're fucking dead Jack." (I never got past 2nd class, which I'm sure I didn't need to tell you).

i am 18 years old and i have had pains in my lower abdomen for years went to doctors about it but nothing was found out as to what causes it. and for the past year i have had random sharp pains that seem to run up from my rectum and travel up wards about 6 inches. the pain is brief usually lasting about 10 seconds but is enough to make stop whatever i'm doing. also about 5 months ago noticed blood in my stool was a small amount. and today i just went poo and it was very painful and there was blood on the toilet paper. my rectum still hurts from the poo and i have a small pain in my lower abdomen again. i am starting to worry if this is a serious issue now.

AC. Assuming you're right handed, stiffen your right index finger, like you were going to point it at someone. In your left hand, cradle your open cell phone. Now punch in the digits corresponding to your doctor's phone number. When someone answers, explain that you need an immediate appointment. If they balk for even a moment, tell them Logjam sent you.

Hi. For the past few years I have expereinced alot of bleeding which is bright red with darker clots. It comes with bad lower back pain and usually happens a week before my period is due. The bleeding can last from 3 to 7 days. It feels like I have a trobbing pain in my left hand side of my lower back. I have had a colonoscopy done which said I had piles, at that time they were lasered. That was last year. They said they couldn't see my intestine because my bowels were not empty enough. Any idea what is wrong or is just piles.

I'm assuming that your bleeding with clots was from your rectum and anus, not from the vagina. What the doctor told you was, to put it mildly, a very strong hint: When you go for a colonoscopy, you must empty your bowels! Use a Fleet enema or similar preparation; ask a druggist for it if you can't find it. It is a waste of time, money, and energy to go to the doctor, sit in the waiting room, finally get to see the doctor, and have him be unable to see what you came for him to look at because you still have poop in there! The cleanout is not pleasant, but it is necessary, and far preferable to some of the things you could have wrong with you that the doctor can't tell you about because you did not prepare adequately. Sorry this sounds harsh, but it's something you need to do.

For 3 days I have had some cramp like pains in my lower abdomen on both sides. It can't be period pains because I just had it a week and a half ago. My poop has also been very dirrahea like but not very runny. Well today I wiped after going to the restroom and I found blood on the TP I looked in the toilet and the poop had bloody tissue all over them. The blood wasn't dark or bright just a light pink. Just wondering if these symptoms sound familiar or if anyone can help me out before I go to the doctor? Thanks!

To Jess--have you been eating orange roughy or some other fatty fish? That could explain the orange slime. To AC 7 13: Blood on the paper usually means your turd had something hard in it that scraped a tiny cut on your anus, which in turn bled on the paper. Not serious; often heals on its own. If it persists or gets worse, see the doctor, who already knows you have a butt and even what comes out of it; don't be embarrassed.

I've read a lot of the comments on this page, and I was wondering if maybe someone might have some advice for me, besides "Go to the doctor"... I've been to the doctor... many of them in fact. I know what's wrong with me. I have crohn's. But, what I was wondering is if anyone knows of any good remedies to stop pooping? None of the pills the docs perscribe work any longer. Imodium worked for a while, but doesn't seem to do the trick either. I have blood in the stool, but it's light in color so it's not from internal bleeding. BTW... if the blood is dark in color you should be very concerned and see a doc asap! You should never put it off no matter what the color though. Anyway, I'm getting really sore... you know, in that area... I mean really sore, to the point that I can't eat, sleep, move... I cry a lot from the pain. I'm usually running to the bathroom about fifteen to twenty times a day. Tonight for example, I've been in the bathroom seven times since eight o'clock and it's only twelve right now. I've tried every diet my docs have said to try. Banannas, rice, ect. Nothing works. I've had crohn's for thirteen years but this problem has only been around for the past three years. Before that it was basically bad stomach pains and lots of vomiting... I still have those, but now I can add this to the list. I need something to help with the pain in that area... the stomach pain I can handle, I'm used to that.
Help... anyone?

I cannot believe that your life can be this affected and your doctor - if he hasn't figured out what's wrong with you - hasn't referred you yet. Does your HMO carry a gastroenterologist? I'd check it out, first, and if so, ask your doctor for a copy of your records and a reference. It may be you need allergy tests that you're not getting. You might still be eating something that's just tearing you up inside.

Make Metamucil a part of your diet and strip it down to nothing but whole foods at first. I mean all whole foods. Slowly add one thing at a time, like wheat, rice, gluten, and try to avoid as many preservatives as possible. You might find you've got a serious food allergy to something like casein, dairy, or a certain grain.

You know, if you can find Prarie Doggin's profile on the site (and you do this by clicking his name and clicking contact) he might be able to help you out. He knows a thing or two about Crohn's.

Hello. I found this site after having my daughter to the emergency room last night and to her pediatrician for passing a foul smelling/mucus bloody stool ( although there is no feces ) she is ten years old. the emergency room tested for cdif but test came back negatice, but the synptoms persist. She has always had a problem with constipation but is currently not constipated. The doctor dicussed several differnt dx, but she doesn't fit the criterea. She is having no pain, no vomiting, I saw no worms or such in her stool. Her ped mentioned something about collitis, or polyps. I am at odds, and my ped told me to take it day by day. I am to collect another sample ( although the hospital had 2 good samples but only tested her for one thing and never sent the rest of it to microbioligy for further testing ) so it is a waiting game. wait for her to pass something, rush it straight to hospital and wait a few days. If it does not clear she has to go to childrens hospital. Any suggestions??

Dear nurse,
I have been very stressed out by long hours at work and upcoming deadlines. So when I went from 125 lbs to 115 lbs over the span of less than 2 weeks I thought it was due to stress. However, I noticed this morning that my poop is of light brown color and is sort of wrapped in lots of white strings. I wonder if the loss of weight is because i got worms or something like it. What do you think I should do?
Thanks you.

18 year old male. Been about one week, strange stools; first day it occurred, small trace amounts of blood. Currently, tannish? Orangish? The color is particularly indecipherable, but on occasion (once a day - once every other day) there are extraordinarily hard black objects inside (usually) one piece. I'm fully aware that I should visit a doctor, and I am an unbelievably paranoid person; I'm losing sleep over this, fearing the worst. However, reading that many people have similar symptoms and have waited much longer than I is, in it's own way, comforting.
Also, I'm not sure if these are symptoms, but I feel as if I am sleeping through my waking hours. At times, mild 'catatonic' phases occur. Aside from these things, the only thing different is I have been belching far more often. I don't have any pain, per se... I just feel... funny.
Once again, I'll go to a doctor soon. Still, a bit of an idea would be nice.

If any of you have been to the physician and not had a colonoscopy, go and specifically ask to have one performed. Colon and rectal cancer presents with skinny, pencil sized poo, blood in fecal matter, increased mucuous that resembles jello, and symptoms that resemble hemorrhoids.

If you have a family history of colon or rectum cancer, you can expect an increased risk as other cancers.

If polyps are identified before becoming cancerous, they're easily removed during the colonoscopy process.

If you're riding the fence on whether or not to see a physician, let me tell you a story...my Mother complained of the symptoms I just described for several months. After convincing her to have a colonoscopy 5 weeks ago, she was diagnosed with terminal cancer, which began in the rectum and colon, spread to the liver, lymph nodes, kidneys, bone and lungs. She's expected to live 2 months.

PLEASE don't wait - there are options and treatments if cancer is diagnosed early.

Bout 3 weeks ago I started having chest pains that had me in the ER just to be sure it was nothing serious, just had a cbc basic panel, cardiac enzymes, chest xray and ekg done. All negative but it kinda put me in a hypochondriac state of mind. So suddenly when I felt gassy or anything suddenly it was serious to me. So I started checking my stools more closely after a BM. I have noticed the past week, every other one or so it seems at the end of the stool there is like a fuzz on it. Guess its clear as there is no color really, looks brown with the stool except when you see if on its own in the water its basically clear. Looks like fungus is the best description I can come up with. Any ideas what that could be? Seems some ppl say its pretty common and no big deal. 27 male with no family history of digestive problems.

For all of you folks putting off a visit to the doctor so you can get advice from this website: Please see your doctor. That's the best advice this or any other website can give you. You should have nice normal bowel movements that feel good and look normal in the bowl. Blood on a persistent and recurring basis, whether on the toilet paper, staining the water in the bowl, or visible on the turds themselves, is a violent exception to the norm. It may have a relatively benign or uncomplicated source--say a small hemorrhoid--or it may be something more serious. But if it is more serious, I have never yet heard of something that got less serious the longer you wait to take care of it. So take care of it!

hi,
found this site while looking for answers.
on the way to work this morning i suddenly needed to get to a toilet. by the time i found one i was ready to bust [i think there was seconds in it] once it was all done and time for a clean up there was a fair amount of blood on the tp and a bit on the top of my stool [which was pretty soft]
could the blood be from holding it in for too long?, and i mean really holding it in!
fyi, this has not happened before.
cheers

My son who is almost 7 has a habit of not flushing the toilet after he goes. Since I do not always catch this soon after I have noticed that his BM's are hard (he almost never has a mess when he wipes). That's not the problem, the thing is if his poop sits in the water it will get a dark looking liquid around it like its leeching out. It's hard to explain but it does not happen when its fresh, there's no blood when he wipes. It just appears after sitting in the water. He has had issues since birth with secondary reflux, he was two years old before he could eat solid foods. He is a very picky eater mostly chicken nuggets. He doesn't complain about stomach pain or constipation and goes a couple of times a day. He also gets pain at night in his legs, knees and ankles. That has been going on since he was an infant. His pediatricians and Rheumatologist can't find anything wrong and said it was ok to take medicine before bed. He has been having 1 1/2 tsp. of motrin before bed and he's fine. He should take 2 tsp. but he's on the small side and I hate giving it to him at all. If we miss a night he awakes and between the pain and being half a sleep it turns into an hour of crying and flipping out. This will happen every night he goes without the motrin. This has turned into a long story but I didn't know if diet of the motrin could be the cause. I always flush and haven't seen anything like this before. My Father thought it was blood but like I said it's not bloody coming out and the toilet paper is clean. Thanks for listening.

It might be a lot of things. But what it is for sure is time to go see her doctor. Most of us are a little embarrassed about things like this, or afraid to see the doctor. And it helps to have a friend like you to provide support and encouragement. So help her get to a doctor (and it will probably turn out to be nothing serious).

Dear poop nurse. I've been quite shy ref my poop but in 2003 i just couldn't take it anymore, everytime i went to poo, it was just blood coming down like when your piying. I spoke to my doctor and refer me to a GI. She did a gastroscopy and discovered a helicobacter pylori. I was treated right away with antibiotics and strong medicine for my stomach. I've been taking pantoloc for my stomach but now not always but often enough when i go for a poop, i have red to dark color of blood in my stools and also blood clots on my paper. When i told my doctor he referred my to a GI again, this time i had both gastroscopy and colonoscopy. The reports came back (nothing wrong). It's been over 5 years, and everytime I go for a poop there's blood in the toilet bowl like a spill a glass of red champagne. The blood clots some are attached to the poop and i have some on the paper as well. I was diagnosed with diverticolitis. Now everytime i have to go there's blood, blood clots, and when i'm finished with the poop now my stomach is on fire, sometimes it could be really high by the sternum, sometimes it could be just above the belly button, i vomit everytime i have a bowel movement. When i womit it's very heavy and today i had a little bit of blood coming out as well, not much but enough to make me very wandering if there's more going with me than the doctors tell me. I cannot remember how many GI's i had, all kinds of tests, colonoscopy, and then yet their answers is always, we couldn't find anything wrong. So now i take Zantac 75 with ranitidine, I take 3 to 4 everytime i have a severe bowel movement with vomitting. Could you tell me what else i can do, i'm sick and tired of them telling me there's nothing wrong, well what do you thing, do you thing that it's my head? I started to take pictures and I print them right away and write the dates on it. I should've have done this 10 years ago. I'm getting very worried, i don't know what else to do, it seems when i tell me doctor about the blood, blood clots it's like yaya, you told me last visit, like can we talk about something else now? now that i have the proof, (pictures) eventually i will take them with me and shove it in his face and say, here what do you think? Is this coming out of my head, or my asshole? I will very much appreciate if you could give me anything to comfort me a little bit, i'm at the end of my rope here. It's very frustrating because I know there's something wrong, it's not normal to poop like and vomit right afterwards with severe abdonimal pain. Thanks for reading my comments.

Had a lot of gut pain last three or four days and yesterday I had this light tan color monster turd. Huge was an understatement.

Today I had another ginormous loaf but it was coated in blood the color of a black cherry with streamers of clots on it. Followed by a pile of crap like soft serve icecream. Lots of blood splatter all over the bowl and the tp was soaked and had clots. That blood splatter was bright red but the actual soft serve was black.

I've had three subsequent blowouts in the bowl of the black icker looking not quite diarrhea but soft serve consistency and the smell is worse than any diarrhea ever. It's nauseating. I've been on a narcotic cough syrup prescribed at 2x the recommended dosage for 16 months, until last week, for a lung disease.

My wife thinks it's from the duration of the cough syrup and I've got a section of dead bowel from an obstruction when I was on it.

I doubt it's cancer as I just got back from Mayo three weeks ago for the lungs and they took gallons of blood and my sedrate is only 15.

I also take a fair ammount of ibuprofen. 800 twice a day most days thanks to older injuries. I suspect old age will be great.

Suggestions?

Dear sufferers, I understand what most of you are going through, as I have experienced many of these things over the past ten years. Doctors, tests and more tests never revealed much except hemmorrhoids and slightly elevated ANAs (symptomatic of autoimmune disease [ibs, crohns, ulerative colitis]) Most likely 99% have one or more of these. They are hard to treat and steroids treat only symptoms, not the causes. Dramatically changing your diet is the only way to provide continued relief: Dairy, Red Meat, Corn, and Eggs are all "imflammatory foods" and many people have trouble digesting the proteins in dairy. Start by cutting out these foods. Read labels- dairy is in EVERYTHING (aka casein, whey, lactose, etc.) no more caffeine. watch out with whole grains and very fibrous veggies if you have ulcerative colitis. This is what I did but it took 2 years of research and experimenting and almost 6 months of a very boring bland and difficult diet but I started feeling like a new me. Am now relapsing- I think because I was feeling so good I started consuming things that are not acceptable to my system. Do your research, google IBS diet and some good sites come up. Most of you are most likely NOT dying, although severe weight loss and bleeding do warrant Dr. visits and steroids may help many of you but other than that, you have to be proactive about your health or this is how you are going to live. Good Luck

Like so many of the people on this site, I too have a poo-poo problem. I'm a 20 year old gal who just came out of the bathroom after a really constipated session feeling scared about what I saw in the bowl. My poop was a tan color and broken up into little pieces. There was slimy blood laced into it. It looked really chunky, like menstrual blood, but the rag happened a week ago.
It's the first time I've seen this and haven't had any irregular stomach pain so I'm really freaked about it and needed some comfort. I've seen a lot of posts on here about similar issues, but not really any responses other than "go see a doctor". Please help.

In reference to Bilgepump, post date October 12, 2009, regardig "whipping". That was the funniest thing I had seen all day! If laughing can relieve constipation, I should be truly going with the flow.

All I can add to help is that I have had IBS for over 20 years. Hemorrhoids, diarrhea, constipation, mucus in stools, odd color stools, are quite normal for that. It may be more comforting for some of these people just to call their doctors, tell them what is going on and see if they need to go in for examination and testing first.

I recently started developing low back pain with my IBS and found out that is a normal symptom, especially since I already have sciatica.

Hi,
I'm a 26 yr old female. For the last several months, I've been dizzy and nauseous and lately have developed sometimes severe pain in my right side. I've had mucus in my stool for the last few weeks and dark red blood in my stool once. My poop is either diarrhea or light colored and thin. I have a colonoscopy scheduled in the next few weeks, but because I don't have a family doctor I'm not sure what they're looking for... any ideas? Thanks!!!

I am the mom of a colon cancer survivor. She was only 32. No family history at all. It was Stage 2 but had not spread beyond the colon. She had the same symptoms as everyone else on this board. If you're passing blood at all and have pencil thin bowel movements...please go to the doctor. No such thing as "too young". My daughter had surgery for her cancer. No chemo was needed due to the type of tumor and no lymph node involvement. She is now 37 and fine. Please go see a doctor and beg for a colonoscopy. It could save your life.

I am 35 years old. I have been having problem with my stomach and it hurt to my back so I alway been having problem sleeping at night. I wen to the doctor, but my doctor say that it is acid reflux that causing it. She perscipt different types of med. and told me to say of a certain type of food. I did.. but I still having the same problem. Just recently, I notice my stool is no larger than my finger and I also notice that there is some white/milky mucus wrap around my stool. What could this mean. I have stomach cramp on the left and the right side. I don't see any blood. I don't know what it means and I don't think my doctor know much either because the med she perscribe cause alot of diahrea. I really don't like doctor that much. hi im 22 years old and i have been having diahrea for about a month straight. then the other day i wipe my butt and there is blood on the toilet paper. i wiped like 5 times and each paper had the same amount of blood on it. i went to the dr. and they said i don't have enough fiber in my diet. i noticed blood on my toilet paper about 6 months before this but the symptoms never persisted until recently when i was having this constant diahrea. Should i get a colonscopy or should i trust the dr. that said its not enough fiber?

For all the poor posters above who are wondering, worried, concerned, scared, etc. about their bloody/mucus-y/other poop problem(s):

ALL of our health problems--ESPECIALLY poop-related problems--are caused FIRST by incorrect feeding habits... and, therefore, ALL can be easily CURED by doing nothing more than simply eating correctly.

What does it mean to eat correctly? The correct human daily diet should be MOSTLY raw fresh fruits and veggies--80% intake--with SOME milks (fluid dairy, not hard cheeses) and VERY LITTLE proteins and carbs altogether making up the remaining 20% each day.

I know... it's not how you're used to eating, and it's not exactly what the government says we should be eating, either... but honestly, how have those ways been working out so far? If the government's dietary recommendations were completely correct, or if our own dietary habits were really right, our poop would be too.

The number, severity, and length of time you suffer poop and other health problems is directly proportional to the degree of separation you have achieved from the correct diet. In other words, the more and longer you have deviated from the correct diet, the more and longer you will suffer accordingly. Plain and simple.

I promise if you seriously amp up the raw fresh fruits and veggies, and dial way down on the dairy/nuts/grains/meat, you will achieve pooping normalcy very soon... and at the same time you will alleviate other health issues as well.

WARNING: I would caution against trying to change your current diet immediately, especially if you are currently eating the opposite of this recommendation. Too great a change all at once to your current diet can bring on some rather nasty detox symptoms including skin rashes, body odor, congestion, cold/flu-like symptoms, etc.

Good news: eating correctly takes only 20-25% of the time you've been suffering to improve or completely erase the damage done by your previous feeding habits.
More good news: Even if you don't achieve the full 80/20 ratio, you will notice your health improving every day as you improve the quality and character of the food you eat.

To change your diet slowly (or if you just plain don't believe me), try this first: keep carbs separate from protein at all times. This means if you are going to eat meat, don't have any type of grains or starchy vegetables with it. ("But that's all I eat with meat!" Yeah, I know--I can tell by your poop problems!) Also be sure to eat these things separately by at least 3 hours.

Often this one change alone will bring about immediate restoration of poop quality.

To keep going after that, or to learn more on your own, please read the book linked below. It was written by a medical doctor who used only detox and dietary changes for 30 years to help thousands of patients heal themselves of myriad health (and poop) problems. His books were written expressly for the purpose of teaching the average person how to heal themselves of any and all health problems and keep themselves well always.

Kiana -- try having some fruits and vegetables instead of all that starch! That way you won't have that starving feeling anymore, your tummy will stop rumbling all the time, and you will have firm healthy poop.

I am 51 years old, and have a history of bowel intusuption and colonectomy. Following this, I had surgery to treat a bowel obstruction, and was treated conservatively in the hospital for obstruction three times. Two days ago, I started having severe abdominal distention, pain, and nausea. So, for two days, I've just been drinking few clear liquids, because they make me nauseaus. I had a liquid bowel movement in response to an enema, but am still bloated and unable to move true stool.

If I still can't handle food at this point, do you think I should go to the emergency room?

About 2 months ago I had a hemorhoid. And in the past few weeks I have noticed pink blood like spots, and something that looks like tissue on my stools. More often than not these stools are solid. Yesterday I had a few bad stomach cramps and struggled to go to the toilet. It wasn't diareha it was the same solid stools with light pink spots. Can anybody tell me what it could be, I have a doctors appointment next week but til then I'm quite worried.

They are a wonderful source of things such as potassium, too bad they don't make you fart.
T-box...do you occasionally mash some neeps in with your tatties? My dear old Scotch-Irish mum used to cook them together in pork broth then mash them and add a dash of cayenne. Good food like that helped her make it to one hundred.

Chief, as kids we grew up on mince, mashed neeps and mashed tatties as it was cheap and nourishing.

Now I like a great big piece of grilled meat with mashed tatties mixed with other mashed veg, like carrots, parsnips, turnips, swedes and the like.

With a good gravy made from the meat juices, butter, a little mustard, some fresh herbs and wine.

Washed down with plenty red wine, then later some oatcakes and blue cheese to finish the evening off, with more wine, of course.

Mmmmmmhmmmmmm!

And just after breakfast the next morning, a superb log gets laid....long, smooth and satisfying. Can`t beat it.

Dear National Potato-Head Council,

Do you just go around the internet looking for blogs where people say we shouldn't eat so much starch, and then bag on them for it because your precious potatoes are starchy?

YES, potatoes are very nutritious, and I definitely advocate eating them over any bread or cereal product, but I hardly think they are sacred... certainly no more sacred than any other fruit, vegetable, or nut (including you).

If you took the time to read the rather lengthy previous post from me, or any other post of mine since the beginning of the year, you would see that nowhere do I EVER say we should eliminate potatoes or any other starch completely.

What I do say we should be eating way more fruits and non-starchy veggies than anything else (and yes that includes your precious potatoes).

It is a proven fact that too much starch and protein in the diet causes myriad health problems, and that eating more fresh fruits and non-starchy veggies helps us heal those problems... so kindly take your sacred potato and stick it right up that sacred hole from which these poor people here are bleeding.

And I guarantee you I can outrun any spud, Vegematic-wielding or not. Why don't YOU click on MY link and below and learn some real truth about nutrition?

IBS, its far more fun to troll around and chase impressionable, and evidently over-sensitive (sorry guys, I was wrong), young damsels with a vegematic...even if they did vote for me. OOOPS!! I didn't say that.

Actually, IBS, I found this statement "And I guarantee you I can outrun any spud, Vegematic-wielding or not." a serious threat to my vegetablinity, and I take great umbrage that a mere girl could possibly think she can out run me, vegematic or not.

You know something Bilge, you're right, sorta...

I wouldn't say I'm overly sensitive. An overly sensitive person would be offended that you seem to have been discussing me behind my back: "(sorry guys, I was wrong)"... or that you played a trick on me here.

What I am is passionate. Discovering that simply eating food correctly can heal our health problems has been an almost religious experience. I can't explain it any better than that.

It has awakened a very keen desire in me to help everyone who suffers needlessly, and anyone who suffers ill health in any form or to any degree whatsoever is suffering needlessly, because it's ALL so easy to fix.

Dr. Hay was kind enough to leave explicit instructions so that every person could easily heal themselves of practically anything, using the exact same methods he used in his clinic for 30 years to help thousands of patients heal themselves of every conceivable health problem of the day (with a near 100% success rate!).

Absorbing and understanding his works has opened my eyes to the true nature of illness and disease. Experiencing for myself the truth of everything he claimed took it to a whole 'nother level. I can't help but try to spread the word. Call me a disciple.

For example, I could tell Chief exactly what to do to heal his diabetes completely and get his willie working again in as little as 3 months.

That would be getting full Hay Health System treatment, which would include 3 days of purging, followed by immediate strict diet change, and safe daily enemas until he was producing stool thrice a day on his own. Slow diet change alone, in a manner such as I recommend, would likely take a year... maybe longer because Chief's such an old fart ;) but also depending on how long he's actually had diabetes, how long he took to get to the right ratio, and how often he cheated once he was eating correctly.

I honestly believe this is the solution to 99% of our health problems today, including AIDS. According to the good doctor, any hostile germ, bacteria, even virus are eradicated from the body once you maintain correct eating habits for a time. They simply cannot exist in the right pH, and maintaining that alkalinity also keeps any new ones from establishing hold in your body. He saw it in his clinic time and time again, it worked every time, and I have no doubt it still works the same today.

So... play jokes on me, make fun of me, argue the logic with me, whatever. I can take it.

Just please respect the fact that I am actually trying to help people.

P.S. The ugly veggie pic made me laugh out loud. Was that you too, or was it PD?

Ibby, we know your heart is in the right place, and you want to share your relief with anyone else troubled by similar symptoms. My reference to "the guys" was a discussion about how often you are posting about combining, and my remark was that you were a big girl and would take criticism (constructive) as it was intended, and not personally. I misread your post prior to my making that reference (written word is sometimes hard to pick up emotion in). You are adored, dear, and we know you are trying to help, its just getting a little bit much. The veggie pic was Chief, I suspect...it wasn't me.
