Leah asks,

I have had poop in my blood from mid-December last year to the beginning of March. When pooping it was VERY painful... so much so that I literally cringed even at the thought of pooping. Anyways, I finally went to the doctor to see what was up. She did her probe and declared me perfectly healthy, but gave me some medication to see if it would reduce the pain and the blood. It did. But since I've discontinued the use, I've started to poo blood again and it hurts a LOT. Has this happened to anyone? Does anyone have any idea what's wrong?

Poonurse responds:

Do you have poop in your blood, or blood in your poop? Very different problems.

If you have the former, I would say you are in deep doo-doo, no pun intended. It is very hard to get poop out of your blood.

If the problem is the latter, I would advise you to start back on the medication your doctor gave you for this problem. See if you can't find out what the ACTUAL NAME of your condition is, from your REAL DOCTOR. This would go a long way towards helping me give you some advice.

Let me know what it is when you find out, and I'll see if I can offer any help.

Leah writes back,

The medication my doctor gave me is called Proctomyxin HC. I was to apply it morning and night and after every poop for ten days. I did all of this as instructed. My doctor thought it was a cut that I had "in there." The medication started to work, but not after one huge poop of blood. It was on my poop, I think, although I didn't excatly pick up my poop and open it up. After this terrifying incident, it went away -- both the pain and the blood. It stoped for the duration of my ten days, and I was a happy pooper. Since then, I've discontinued the medication (as instructed), but the blood has now returned, along with the pain. But, if this makes sense, the pain has moved to a different area in my rectum. But it hurts just as much!

Dear Leah,

As you know, I am not a doctor. But it sounds like you possibly could have a rectal fissure, which is like a tiny tear in the lining of the rectum. It can cause pain and rectal bleeding such as you describe.

But I must tell you that beyond following a high fiber diet and drinking tons of water (these make the poop easier to pass and less likely to keep irritating your rectum), you REALLY NEED to go back to the butt doctor and report that your symptoms have returned.

If you have a family doctor treating you, ask for a referral to a gastroenterologist. They specialize in these kinds of problems. But do go back.

Thanks for asking Poonurse!

Please be advised that I am only a Poonurse. I am NOT a medical doctor. Any advice I give should be taken moderate skepticism. Please consult a REAL medical doctor if you feel you have a serious medical condition.

Got a question for her?

Yeah, I have problems with doctors too.
Every time I walk to the front door of a doc's office, I feel PTSD hit me like a ton of bricks. It makes me want to scream, run, and rip my hair out.

Hi all. Had a frightning experience last night. I passed alot of blood last night and this has never happened before. I have been on a strong course of antibiotics for a tooth infection, althougth this was several weeks ago. During the course of antibiotics i had severe diorhea. As soon as the course had finished i got nasty constipation! Over the last few days it seemed to have eased. Thats is until last night. Since last nights occurence i have overdosed on fibre and cod liver oil and have just used the loo again. this time with more positive results! No blood at all apart from a very slight watery soltution when i gently mopped up. In hind sight my diet has been crap (hehe). Looking back at my past few weeks eating habits i have eaten nothing but junk. I can't remember the last time i have eaten any vegetables. I think i will postpone going to the doctors for the moment and see what an improved diet will do. Good luck everybody, i hope you are all fit and healthy again soon ;-)

Bleeding from the back passage is something that you should always see your doctor about, even if you are convinced it is piles or an anal fissure. The reason you need to be checked is that bleeding from the back passage can be a symptom of bowel (colon or rectum) cancer. If you don

I an 16 years old and I just took a big poo. I was shocked when i went to flush it because there was blood in the toilet with it. I am not going to see a doctor, it is far too embarassing to ask my parents to take me and tell them. I have been eating pure junk food for the past few weeks if that has anything to do with it. I think im going to try and improve my diet and see if it goes away anytime soon. What do you think I should do?

Hell-o I am 22 year old male. This morning when I woke up I went to use the restroom to take a dump. When I went to wipe my butt it was bloody. I stood up & there was nothing but red colored blood in the toilet. I went down stairs & made a cup of coffee & then went back into the rest room and tried to use it once more. I did make some poop come out of my butt & also it was still bloody.

Is there away to fix me?

Please help I am very nervous about what this might be.

I've had some blood in/on my poop a few times, including the last 3 or 4 poops. In the past, it would last for a few poops and go away. This time it's taking longer to go away. I'm wondering if it might be from a combination of things: heavy weighlifting and sit-ups along with more time sitting at the computer (on a fairly hard chair) and maybe eating too many things that thin the blood (garlic, ginger, walnuts etc)?? When I lift, I tend to hold my breath and I also probably lift too much weight, but I always do this. And I also tend to wipe pretty hard (trying to get clean). So it's probably an internal hemmy?

Thanks for any response!

Thanks for any comments

So i went to the doctors office & told the doctor what was going on... The doctor then said well it sounds like you have (hemroids) then the stuck his finger in my ass & then probed me with this tool & said yes you do have (hemroids)

he told me it was nothing major becase they where small (internal hemroids) & i could get rid of them with some cream & by eating more fiber or even buying fibercon pills

so if you have belleding you in your poop it is 70% sure that you have (hemroids)

& i would still go see a doctor because it could even be sings of hemroids or cancer so go get looked at & stop sitting on your ASS!!!!!!

I'm a 17yr old male i too pooed blood.
i'm so worried im thinking backwards. Iv'e heard that sitting on the computer for long periods of times can cause hemroids well hemroids are also caused by sitting any where for a long period of time.Atleast thats what Iv'e heard. When I poo i have blood ussually on it. Or if its a big poo then its on the papper .It comes and goes like most of you have siad what happens to you. I think im going to take the poo nurse's advise and eat more fiber and less junk food. My diet consists of pepsi, pizza rolls,Frozen pizza with ranch and hot sauce,I don't think iv'e had a glass of water nor fruit or vegtables in 7 months.I'm scared to death of taking medication or drugs of any kind.I'm going to eat more fiber and fruits and juice and i'll come back with the results.

About Hemorrhoids

Hemorrhoids are abnormally swollen veins in the rectum and anus. They are much like varicose veins you might see on a person's legs. When bulging hemorrhoidal veins are irritated, they cause surrounding membranes to swell, burn, itch, become very painful, and bleed. Hemorrhoids are caused by too much pressure in the rectum, forcing blood to stretch and bulge the walls of the veins, sometimes rupturing them. Listed below are the most frequent causes of hemorrhoids:

Constant sitting

Straining with bowel movements

Diarrhea

Sitting on the toilet for a long time

Severe coughing

Childbirth

Heavy Lifting

NOTE:
There are two kinds of hemorrhoids: internal and external. Internal hemorrhoids usually don't hurt or itch; you can't feel them because they are deep inside the rectum. Internal hemorrhoids are pretty harmless. But since their bleeding COULD mask blood from a dangerous source like colorectal cancer, they
should be treated.

http://www.cscd.ca/lp/images/hemorrhoid.jpg

Hemorrhoid Prevention

1.If your main job activity is seated, always stand or walk during your breaks. Make it a point to stand and walk at least 5 minutes every hour and try to shift frequently in your chair to avoid direct rectal pressure.

2.Always exhale as you strain or lift. Don't hold your breath.

3. Control coughing, diarrhea and constipation with early treatment since hemorrhoids may soon follow.

4. Make a rule: No reading or other relaxing activity while on the toilet. If bowel movements take longer than 3-5 minutes, something is wrong.

I'd think not! The blood, if any,. would be black by the time it hit your colon.

I've had broken ribs, and the only thing they have done to me poopwise was make it hard to push.

I had a dodgy xmas dinner and got these mad stomach pains, sat on the toilet for about 30 minutes. The poop was quite loose but the pain went away. After that i developed an intense pain just at the top of my anus, and a small lump. The pain increased until i was in constant pain, whilst sitting or standing. I went to sleep just now and woke a few hours later and the pain was gone. My boxer shorts were covered with a foul smelling liquid where the pain was. I think it was an abscess that exploded? Maybe. Anyway, just went poop and there was blood on the paper and in the bowl. It was bright red. I live in a foreign country and so dont understand the medical terms so well, im afraid to go to the doctor. Shall i just leave it unless there is a repeat of the pain?

I had a child i august and now for 5 months i have had unbarable pain when using the bathroom. I am pretty sure it is internal hemmroids. There is lots of blood when i poop. It is in the poop and also a lot will just come out. Like when someone has there period exept mine is coming out of my butt. I sm in alot of pain. It takes me an hour or more to go to the bathroom. I have tried home remedies now for 5 months and nothing id working. I am going to call the doctor on monday. Is there still something that i can be doind at home to help this until i get seen? I take a fiber supp and also a stool softener (colace).

Hi after reading all this an my experence today I had with finding blood on the toiletpaper for the first time has scared the crap of out me as well. I don't feel pain either, so its got me considered. I am 16 right now, male, 17 in less then 2 weeks. I am seeing that this problem occures with teenagers and grown ups around the ages of 17-22. I do sit a lot on the computer and for everything this is a problem. DO NOT SIT ON THE COMPUTER FOR A LONG PERIOD OF TIME. You will get the same symptoms and don't tell me I didn't warn you because it will happen if your a male or female... I am scared to go to the doctors or tell my parents lol, so ima wait till tommarow, if i still have blood in it then comes my real worry. In some cases it could most likely be that you got internal hemeroids or worst it could be cancer so please GO TO THE DOCTORS. If your scared and this is the first time it happened to you then drink a lot of water, sit on your legs with your feet back will release some tension when you sit, and eat A LOT OF FIBER. FIBER FIBER FIBER, is all i hear, I hope its true. Right now i am eating some cerial that has 17% fiber in it. I will get back to you guys with the results tommarow. It could also be that you have a tear in your rectum... Check if you have any cuts near your anal or on your anal get it checked out. If there is bumps then
could be external hemroids. SEE A DOCTOR IMEDENTLY, IT DOESN'T MATTER IF YOUR AFRAID, YOU COULD BE RISKING YOUR LIFE! FOODS TO STAY AWAY FROM ARE ANY SORT OF JUNK FOOD AND CHOCOLATE! Thats all I can tell you for now, I hope this has helped some of you, reply if it has :D.

ATTENTION PEOPLE:

This is a poop HUMOR site; NOT a medical help site! Even Poonurse (may she rest in peace) was intended to be somewhat tongue-in-cheek (maybe not the best analogy here, but...):

You poor, benighted masses: Blood in your stools is NEVER a trivial matter. PR cannot help you!

The only upside to coming here is, if you continue to look to this site for medical advice, you may die, but at least you will die laughing!

Sorry, but in all seriousness, it is pretty stupid to waste your time posting your gross medical details here. There is no one to help you. Poonurse has left the building. ET, phone home, or at least call 9-1-1.

Dumpster: I completely disagree with you. Behind her sarcasm, Poonurse provided a lot of great advice. Beyond that, there are few other places to talk frankly about poop health; we should be supportive of those who found this site. The green poop page, for instance, has saved thousands of people over the years its been online. Look at how many comments there are!

Poonurse has indeed left the building. But a lot of her advice still stands. And for the record, here's the cardinal rule for blood in your poop: if it lasts a few days or more, call the doctor. There's no other way around it.

But that's only if there's blood IN your poop. If there's blood when you wipe, you probably have a chafed anus. Keep it moist with vaseline or antibacterial balm for a couple of days, and it should get better.

Well I guess I know who flamed me, too! Sorry to offend the powers that be, but the lawyer in me is just afraid of somebody placing undue reliance on this site for serious health issues. Reading these posts, it is sometimes very hard to know where humor ends and where justifiable reliance begins. Hi,

Question: 24 hours before I had blood in my poop I took too much viatamin C (more than 2000mg). Is it possible that this could cause blood in my poop?

I am 31. I had blood in my poo for 2 days. It has now stopped. I went to see 2 doctors about it because the first one didn't examine me properly. I eat very well and look after myself so I was surprised and worried. They think it was an anal fissure. The blood was bright red and in the bowl and around the poop 9which was soft). After 2 days my anus area was a little sore. I'm really glad I consulted my doctor.

So I just stood there and thought about what all I have had to eat before i started freaking out(i am known to do that)and I hadn't had anything to make me do this. So I told my mom and of course she looked and she said that it might be hemoroids or I am just spotting in between. Then today again in the late evening I did it again and this time when i wipe there was slime with the blood! I am worried cause when i started reading this it said something about cancer! And I just want to know if someone were to have this kinda of cancer if it would be treated fast. I am going to the doctors sometime and I will get back with you all on what I have. Hopefully nothing Bad!!! Pray for me! lol!
