Leah asks,

I have had poop in my blood from mid-December last year to the beginning of March. When pooping it was VERY painful... so much so that I literally cringed even at the thought of pooping. Anyways, I finally went to the doctor to see what was up. She did her probe and declared me perfectly healthy, but gave me some medication to see if it would reduce the pain and the blood. It did. But since I've discontinued the use, I've started to poo blood again and it hurts a LOT. Has this happened to anyone? Does anyone have any idea what's wrong?

Poonurse responds:

Do you have poop in your blood, or blood in your poop? Very different problems.

If you have the former, I would say you are in deep doo-doo, no pun intended. It is very hard to get poop out of your blood.

If the problem is the latter, I would advise you to start back on the medication your doctor gave you for this problem. See if you can't find out what the ACTUAL NAME of your condition is, from your REAL DOCTOR. This would go a long way towards helping me give you some advice.

Let me know what it is when you find out, and I'll see if I can offer any help.

Leah writes back,

The medication my doctor gave me is called Proctomyxin HC. I was to apply it morning and night and after every poop for ten days. I did all of this as instructed. My doctor thought it was a cut that I had "in there." The medication started to work, but not after one huge poop of blood. It was on my poop, I think, although I didn't excatly pick up my poop and open it up. After this terrifying incident, it went away -- both the pain and the blood. It stoped for the duration of my ten days, and I was a happy pooper. Since then, I've discontinued the medication (as instructed), but the blood has now returned, along with the pain. But, if this makes sense, the pain has moved to a different area in my rectum. But it hurts just as much!

Dear Leah,

As you know, I am not a doctor. But it sounds like you possibly could have a rectal fissure, which is like a tiny tear in the lining of the rectum. It can cause pain and rectal bleeding such as you describe.

But I must tell you that beyond following a high fiber diet and drinking tons of water (these make the poop easier to pass and less likely to keep irritating your rectum), you REALLY NEED to go back to the butt doctor and report that your symptoms have returned.

If you have a family doctor treating you, ask for a referral to a gastroenterologist. They specialize in these kinds of problems. But do go back.

Thanks for asking Poonurse!

Please be advised that I am only a Poonurse. I am NOT a medical doctor. Any advice I give should be taken moderate skepticism. Please consult a REAL medical doctor if you feel you have a serious medical condition.

-- Poonurse

Poonurse is an RN with 25 years experience in labor and delivery. Her qualifications include seeing a lot of poop, and owning a computer. Also, she works in Michigan, which she calls the asshole of the universe, so that's another bit of credibility.

Got a question for her?

Colby, something similar happened to me. The only differences was that the water around the logs was orange-brown, not pink. But also, it happened because my sewer pipe was clogged and a lot of my shit that was going into the septic came back in. So I don't know how old the shit I saw was or if it mixed with old shit.

i'm 16 years old, female, and as far as i know completely healthy, but for about the last week, every time i've been to the toilet i've found blood on the toilet paper, and if i look into the toilet there it toilet in the water, and it doesn't seem like it coming from the actual poo, theres quite a bit but not a big amount, and i've had a few small uncomfortable pains sometimes around my groin, but i don't know if that's unrelated as i've had it when i'm not on the toilet too. i don't want to tell my mother because it's embarassing to talk about it. how long should i wait, and find out if the bleeding carries on before i have to tell, or see a doctor, or is this just some random temporary thing that isn't anything serious? am i at a great risk? it's starting to worry me. thank you

Nice try, troll. What's got me confused, though, is that I expect this of a 12-year-old male. But clearly, you're much older than that. Worrisome. So, yes, this is something "serious," and I do suggest you seek professional help.

I think I know the Colby's issue. I went the other day and there was a very dark small piece of shit stuck to the toilet. A few minutes later I saw a little red coming from it. I think I should get helper soon from a doctor since I don't think this is normal

I'm a 16 year old male and for the past few months now there has been off and on incidents where there was bright red blood in my poo. It doesn't hurt that much, but it stings a little bit. There's no way I'm going to a doctor nor telling my parents, it's way too embarrassing. I know it's probably not serious because cancer in people my age is nearly non existent. What do I do?

If it gets more painful, man up and tell your parents. It's probably just some butt grapes (hemorrhoids), but it's good if you take care of yourself and prevent worse trouble.

Remember, you might be embarrassed, but your parents love you and would never want you to be in health trouble.

I bet that the boy's problem is some hemmeroids. I hate how they have hurt me too. I think they are worst when I have been eaten a lot of dairy in my menus. hotdogs also makes it worst than even too much dairy.

hi im a girl, age 14. i suspect i have hemmeroids, cos i had constipation like 2 days ago n really strained alot, then got this soft skin like thing outside the anus there. today it bled when i wipe it after pooping. i dont wish to tell my parents or doc if possible cos im.. a cowardD: is there anyway to stop the bleeding?

oh i should have read this site 1 yr ago. i wish i listened to my mum. i sat on the stool, and read, and read, and read a book. so overall the poooping took about 20-30min. n voila i found the skin bobbing around today with the bleeding D: T_T

Hello, Cassy. First, if you are constipated, please be sure (1) to eat well: veggies, whole grains, things with fiber; (2) to exercise regularly, which helps keep your digestion moving; and (3) to go to the toilet when you feel the need. Don't make yourself wait; go promptly. Try not to strain hard while having a bowel movement; that can certainly cause hemorrhoids, and other disorders as well. You have to strain a little bit, of course; but not too hard.

Now about the blood and the soft skin thing on your anus: DO tell your parents and the doctor. They have an anus, just as you do; they know what problems can arise, just as you are now finding out; and the doctor is the one who can tell for sure what you have and what to do about it. Please don't wait.

for the past two days there has been ALOT of blood in my poop. Today it looked like I had my period out my butt. this happened a couple months ago but went away. i admit i dont drink enough water and probably dont eat enough fiber. im hoping its just a fissure but scared because i read alot of blood could be a sign of a tear in your GI tract which is fatal. obviously i should go to the doctor, and i plan to if it doesnt clear up in a few days with more h2o and fiber. has anyone else experienced this and what was your diagnosis??

Poopie pie, if you read any of the above posts, or any of the thousands of similar posts all over Poop Report about blood coming out of your backside, you'll see that they have one common answer: GO TO SEE A DOCTOR.

Blood coming from any orifice other than your vagina for a few days per month IS A SIGN OF SOMETHING WRONG. It could be piles or it could be something else. The important thing is not to waste time, get it looked at and get it looked at NOW, for your own peace of mind if nothing else. Although you should be eating more fibre and drinking more water anyway, you can still do this as a lifestyle change for the future rather than waiting for a change and continuing to bleed. Stop fucking about on the internet RIGHT NOW and get your bleeding arse to a medic. You'll have to do it eventually so now is as good a time as any.

Good luck, come back on here afterwards and let us know how it went. We wish you well, Poopie Pie.

Dear AC.....No need to be frightened, although this is a poop related humor site many people who post here were originally drawn to the site by conditions from which they themselves suffered. Also you must take into consideration that there are many people who fear going to a doctor more than they fear death itself.

You may have noticed that a bit of advice that is repeated over and over again in Poop Report is, "YOU NEED TO SEE A DOCTOR." Some good advise is offered to those who suffer from many maladies by those who have suffered the same thing.

Yes. Tell your mother as she'll be just as worried about it as you and go to the doctor. Please.

If it's fresh red blood, it's likely that you just have 'roids. If it's dark blood, this could be a sign of bleeding further up in the colon. Either way, you should have a doctor examine you. Bleeding from any orifice other than the one that bleeds monthly is a sign that you need to be checked out.

Don't be scared. You are the most precious thing in your mother's life and nobody will give you better support or a more comforting hand to hold.

Bright red blood with pooping could also mean an anal fissure. Fissures happen when the poop is too dry and/or too large to pass and causes like a paper cut-like tear on the anus. like el scumbag says tell your mother so she can make an appointment with an md for you.

AC 5/16: A little blood on toilet paper may just be from a hard turd coming out; see if it goes away in a few days. If not, try some Balneol or similar stuff after your b.m. If it still doesn't go away, or gets words, go to the doctor whether you want to or not. He (or she) has seen it all before and won't embarrass you.

AC 5/9: I don't know what would make brown mucus, though the Ex-Lax might contribute to it. However--you can't keep taking Ex-Lax forever, so in my opinion you need to revisit your doctor to see how soon you can start to rely on your own system to move your bowels. If you take laxatives long enough, I believe you develop a dependence on them and can't have natural bowel movements. Bad.

Well yesterday and today I saw some blood when I wiped my butthole and I ask my friend she's a Doc. and say that could be hemorrhoid, last weekend I drank like a fish and she said that maybe that was the caused of the problem, so she recommended me to drink a lot of water and eat fruit and tonight I'm feeling better because my ASS doesn't hurt when I have to shit.

Both Anonymouses: Pooping blood in large amounts is not normal. First, period blood doesn't exit through the anus; peeing blood from the anus means something is wrong. 12-year-old: It's possible you are starting to have periods, but in that case you wouldn't be "pooping" blood. Please, both of you, see your doctor quickly. We like giving our little bits of wisdom on this site, but most of us are not physicians, and even a real physician would have to see you to tell what is wrong. Go to the doctor!

Okay, I've been reading these posts...mainly for entertainment purposes but I have noticed an ooing trend. Stupidity! Here's the deal, if your expelling blood for more than two days when you poop you really need to see a doctor. Embarrassing yes, but necessary. Most of the time you'll probably have a hemmeroid or a fissure or even just a tear which can be relatively harmless...but there is a chance it could be much more serious and possibly fatal. I am a 24 year old woman who had the same damn issues as yall, and i went to the doctor to find out I have Crohn's disease. It is serious, noncurable, but with proper medications, in my case due to the severity a round of chemo...it can be put into remission. It has the potential to lead to other issues as well which can be fatal. Had i not gone to the doctor, I wouldn't have found out and I would be worse off than I am now. Embarassing yes...but a necessity. The exam is painless...they may do a rectal exam, but most likely you poop in a cup and they test it for blood...they run other tests as well to make sure its not being caused by a bacteria and you may get a CT. In my case i got a colonoscopy...but i didn't feel a damn thing because they put my ass out for it. no pun intended. Look its beter to be safe than sorry.

Hi All,
I AM NOT A DOCTOR BUT THIS SEEMS TO WORK THROUGH YEARS OF EXPERIENCE. If your stool is hard and you want to make soft, then eat a papaya fruit or
drink lots of papaya liquid if you can't find actual fruit.

If you are on a long journey and you want to
avoid going to a toilet to pass stool, then eat a guava fruit or drink guava juice.

Hope this will help thousands.

alot of pooping problems(including bloody stool)can be easily solved by simply including plenty of fiber in your diet.fiber has many benfits to us. One of which is the huge role it plays in digestion, which solves the frequent "trouble going" or(constipation) problems most people have. i saw one comment where a young gentleman said he poops regularly (every other day). this is technically considered constipation. especially at 18 yrs old. im 30 yrs old and i go poop 3 times a day(bare minimum),and its always very comfortable experience. if your not going at least 1-2 times a day eat more fiber. the "pushing" and spending excessive time on the john causes hemmoirroids which is what makes toilet paper and poop bloody. the easiest fixer upper for this is to eat fruit and whole grain cereal. it doesnt have to be nasty tasting health junk. lots of cereals have dietary fiber in it that taste good. i would recommend going for 10-15 grams of dietary fiber per day at least. look on the labels it tells you how much your food has in it. and if possible stay away from over processed foods or refined stuff. if you feel this is not why you have bloody stool then try and stop lifting excessively heavy stuff and use your legs to lift instead. they make over the counter hemmoroidal relief medicine. if problem persists consult a physician.

So, like many of you I've been seeing blood in my crap. For the past few days when I took a dump, there were pinkish specks on the toilet paper when I wiped. Now just today when I went number 2, it felt normal, it LOOKED normal, but when I looked on the toilet paper it was covered in bright red blood. The same thing occurred a few hours ago when I went again. I sit at my computer for hours on end a lot, I eat a lot of junk, I rarely drink water, and I'm very scared. And I really don't want to tell my mom or go a doctor. Please help!

I have read most the comments and I have nothing against the site, I happen to just stumbled upon it. I had the same problem as everyone does, happened recently, so I took action by drinking prune juice and green tea. I also am scheduled to see a doctor two weeks from now, I hope I don't have a serious medical condition. I don't really look at my toilet when I flush, it grosses me out, but I happened to look at my toilet wipe which looked kinda bloody pink/pale red like a glimpse then threw it/flushed it along with poopees. I have OCD, and I don't like looking at poops or anything nasty, LOL..but this worries me now...I had to see a doctor, asap.

Penelopoop ... You need to get over your dislike of looking at your own poop. There are many things you can learn from its size, shape, and color. You don't need to squeeze it and check its texture but you do need to look at it.

Hi all. I have not taken a dump in about a month or so. Today and on many other occasions, I would try, but it either wouldn't come out or would be excruciatingly painful. It feels like a giant rock in there. I have a pretty good diet and dring lots of water but I just can't get it to soften up. I am now deathly afraid of "going" now after reading all of these comments but I need to fix this somehow. I'm only 14 so I don't really feel comfortable telling my parents about it. Dear AC ... First we must make a decision as to whether or not the blood is also inside the poo. The simple way to check for this is to catch a handful of poo, wipe off the external blood, then squish the remainder between your fingers and check for internal color and get back to us.

Or you could read the dozens of posts above yours that address the same question. Probably just hemorrhoids but a doctor can give you something to help heal them or at least calm the pain a bit.

Eat chilies and feel the burn!!

How long a minute is depends on what side of the bathroom door you're on!

I've been having this exact same problem :( It seriously hurts so bad to poop that I shudder at the thought. And the bigger it is the more blood there is. And it's gotten to the point where I want to eat less so I wont poo as much. What's wrong with meeeeee! lol

So...I'm just now getting into 2007 i think...and wow there's a lot more occurences of this starting in 2006. and looks like maybe more in 2007, judging by the posts on this site. I've had this problem for YEARS now. Maybe as long as the rest of you, and I have some theories about what's causing it for a lot of us. I need to read more comments and remember more of what I was going to say, but for now, I want to thank everyone that gives more detail. Also, IMO, this could be related to low blood pressure. DID YOU KNOW THAT DOCTORS DON'T CHECK LOW BLOOD PRESSURE PROPERLY? OH YEAH, EITHER ADDISON'S DISEASE OR OTHER DISEASES, I WAS READING ABOUT THEM AND WHEN IT TALKED ABOUT SYMPTOMS IT MENTIONED THAT YOU'LL GET THE LOW BLOOD PRESSURE WHEN YOU STAND. BUT DOCTORS DON'T COMPARE BLOOD PRESSURE SITTING AND STANDING. THEY ONLY CHECK IT WHEN YOU'RE SITTING, OR MAYBE LYING DOWN? DON'T REMEMBER. BUT DEFINITELY NOT WHILE STANDING. DOCTORS ARE MORONS. SERIOUSLY. ONLY SOME OF THEM ARE GOOD. I'll post back with more information.

others with symptons like mine:

another bit of evidence to consider is if your butthole seems too tight and/or you're too skinny and are pooping like feels like glass...

you might have addison's cuz this sounds like you could be affected by respiratory and metabolic acidosis. meaning the quality of your water is bleh.

when i started drinking essentia water it helped alot! now that i stopped drinking it, the blood pooping returned! essentia water has a really high pH and is supposed to help get your cells oxygenated. but with metabolic acidosis mixed with hypoventilation and/or hypopnea, you are getting screwed. hypoventilation sounds like it means you are prone to humongous burps for no apparent reason and hypopnea may be what will confuse you into thinking that you have asthma. i was falsely led to believe that i have asthma, but after reading about asthma i'm pretty sure i do not really have it.

also, my theory in regards to not feeling pain(although you'd think you should if you were pooping blood) would be that your extremely low cortisol (or was that high cortisol) well, anyway, your malfunctioning adrenal glands (from addison's disease) maybe disabling your sense of dread and ability to feel the pain. JUST a theory. addison's disease may be closely related to emotionally traumatic experiences, imo.

MASTERS, i have the same problem with the super sticky poop. it's not happening as often as you, though.

Also guys, just for further information, I haven't done it lately...but one thing that I noticed...it's either something that I feel forced to do or it helps with the pain...I'm not sure which...but my poop will often feel like it's getting stuck in my hairs or just inside the butthole but either way I end up pulling the poop out. I'd never done that before. I mean, pulling it out of butt hairs is one thing, that's usually parts of the poop that get stuck or whatever, but the entire poop turd getting pulled out is really extreme and I wonder if anyone else had to do this.

figured out what's wrong with almost all if not all of us. we have stomach acid deficiency. there might be various disorders or diseases that are causing it, there have been various ones listed as the culprits for different people, but whatever the disorder, they all seem to contribute to the stomach acid deficiency. i think mine is addison's disease, although i'm not sure that's it, i definitely have little to no stomach acid.
