In NSW, local government regulations allow you to design and build your own waterless composting toilet for your individual circumstances.
With increasing awareness of the affect that the dreaded septic tank is having on our environment many local councils are now encouraging the ancient technology of the waterless composting toilet [1].
By keeping our human solid waste separate from our waste water (commonly called greywater) from kitchen, laundry and bathroom, the resulting compost can be used to improve the soils in our gardens and easier-to-treat greywater can then be reused to water our gardens.
The average four person family uses 600 litres of water a day. This can be reduced to 480 litres of water, which is then more easily reused in the garden. There are savings all round, for the environment and the family.
