bung blood: cut and chafe

Jess asks:

When I wipe (normally like 4-5 times), I try not to wipe neither too hard nor too soft so I can get it all cleaned out. But a few times when I wipe, it looks like blood. I'm thinking that around the hole where it's all brown, I have a cut. Did my poop form a needle or something and make a cut? Because sometimes it feels pokey when it's coming out. What is wrong?

Dear Jess,

Thanks for the question.

It sounds like you have an irritation down there. It could be anything from just minor chafing to an actual fissure to something more ominous.

You can try taking a stool softener, increasing your water consumption, and getting tons of fiber into your diet.

But any time you see blood when you wipe, it merits a visit to the doctor to get it checked out.

So go!

Please be advised that I am only a Poonurse. I am NOT a medical doctor. Any advice I give should be taken moderate skepticism. Please consult a REAL medical doctor if you feel you have a serious medical condition.
