Skatole is a mildly toxic white crystalline organic compound with chemical formula C9H9N, Wikipedia says [2]. "It occurs naturally in feces (it is produced from tryptophan in the mammalian digestive tract), beets, and coal tar, and has a strong fecal odor."

Over on the forums [3], Mark of Stain says, "I was rummaging in the buffet when I came across my molecular model kits left over from freshman chemistry. I looked up the formula for skatole and made a model of it to put on the toilet tank in the guest bath. The dark blue node is nitrogen, the black are carbon, and light blue are hydrogen. The methyl group conveniently forms a stand for it."

Daphne thinks this would make a cool t-shirt design for PoopReporter science nerds. I agree. But unless we intend to produce the most obscure poop t-shirt in the world, it needs a funny line to make people know there's something bathroom going on here. I suggested a simple "What's that smell?" caption. Di Uhreea says she can do better, but only if she gets a free t-shirt in return for her wisdom.

And so the contest begins. Please caption this picture of skatole to make a hilarious and scientific t-shirt.

(And yes, I know we never voted on the last contest. That's next on my list.)
